Hi all
Last night i installed a fresh windows , But before installing it i didn't empty the recycle bin which has more than 5 Giga bytes of deleted files.
After the windows installation the files in the recycle bin had not been permanently deleted and i lost the free space.
I UNCHECKED the "Hide protected protected operating system files" and i found a folder called $RECYCLE.BIN with about 8 gigabytes size.
what should i do now to regain the disc space?
and Sorry for my bad english.

Open $RECYCLE.BIN. You will see one or more Recycle Bin folders. Open the first one, select all in it then delete what's selected.

Right clicking on the Recycle Bin on the Desktop and selecting Empty Recycle Bin should also do this for you.

Thanks for replying but the first Recycle bin was empty.
Anyway i selected all the recycle bins in the $Recycle folder and deleted them all and it works fine now :D

That's different than on my Win 7 system. All Recycle bin folders showed the same contents. Anyway, glad it's fixed.

How did the Recycle Bin remain if you correctly booted the installer to Clean Reinstall Windows 7 over the old installation?

It sounds like you ran the installer from the desktop .

No i installed a clean windows .. but may be when you install a fresh windows before emptying the recycle pin files,it keeps the deleted data in the $RECYCLE folder.
I Don't know what the point of doing so as long as that you can't restore These files anyway !

If you correctly boot the installer to Install Win7 (Did you?) then it formats the partition so there is no Recycle Bin left, except a new one which is installed along with Win7.

Do you have a windows.old folder in C: drive now? If so then you didn't boot the installer to install. How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

I think there is a misunderstanding :)
The $RECYCLE folder which i talked about is in the drive "D" Not the the system drive "C"
I know the difference between clean windows installation and Upgrading an existing windows and what i did is a clean windows installation by formatting the System Drive "C" before installing the new one.

HOW TO POST A SNAPSHOT OF DISK MANAGEMENT DISPLAY
Run disk management:
WIN |
type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
This method gives you a display without the unneeded navigation pane.
WIN=key with Microsoft logo on top.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
ALT-Spacebar
key combo | X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field.

Make a snapshot:
WIN |
type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.
File | Save as | select save location and name | Save

Post the snapshot:
Post a File or Screenshot in Seven Forums

That will help to clarify matters.

Where was it mentioned that you had installed to a separate partition than the one on which exists the Recycle Bin you're concerned about? I cannot find it anywhere.

i didn't mention that it's a separate drive that's why i said there is a misunderstanding.
i said that i didn't empty the recycle bin which by default contains deleted files from the whole hard drive not only the system partition.
Anyway i've deleted all the recycle bins in the $recycle folder and that happened without any problem and i regained the missed free space.
i'm sorry about the misunderstanding and i really appreciate your help.
thank you so much :)

Your free space on C is inadequate.

Your free space on D is woefully inadequate.

First, move data, and data only, from your D to your other hard drive.

Then post back a new disk management snapshot.

This is Win 7 and not XPired. You should seriously consider merging those small partitions you have on your Drive 0.

Space has to be made available on D and on C if possible (move data only), before some recommendations can be made.

No prob, Karl will get you sorted out. It would also be good to wipe the jumble of partition types on Disk0 and start over with one or two data/storage partitions.

That's what i really wanted do ..
I'll merge 3 partitions of disk "0" in a single partition.
but i just wanted some time to free up space in the other disk in order to move the data from the disk 0 to disk 1 before repartitioning.
and i'll move some data from Partition c to the other partitions after repartitioning the other hard drive.
but i've a question here
what is the suitable free space for the system partition in my case?

I'll do that as soon as possible.

First get the merges done and the data moved over there to make more space on your D

Post a fresh diskmanagement map after that.

thanks,
karl
