Problem with updating Nvidia Geforce 8400M GT graphics card

Hi,

I successfully installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit by choosing custom install on my Sony Vaio VGN-NR21S. I didnt delete my Windows Vista Home Edition 32-bit recovery partition.

I am having difficulty in updating the graphics card which is a Nvidia Geforce 8400M GT. I downloaded a desktop 8400 driver from Nvidia site(UK) for me.

I then used the mobility modder tool for Nvidia and it modified the inf file. I then ran the Setup.exe from the Nvidia directory.

The problem is that i keep getting a message saying "The System has not been modified" after running the setup.exe

I then tried the notebook 8400M GT driver from Nvidia site(even though its not supported by Sony) That didnt work.

So i then tried using the Mobility modder on the notebook 8400M driver but the same problem occurs.

I am not confident in modifying the inf file outlined in the following:

This wasn't what you asked, but -

Can you install the Vista graphics driver?

I had to do something like that with my Compaq notebook (8200M graphics). Since doing that, I was able to get drivers from Windows Update or use the generic nVidia mobile drivers. I can't tell you whether it was necessary, but it may have helped.

yes,my graphic card is discreted card means its detatchable,,,,,,,,,,i see it ,when i update my bios to slic 2.1,,,,,,after installing nvidia drivers from nvidia.com.....after i update my bios ,,,,,,here i face my problem ..now my display split into two some times 6 r 8..when i used powerstrip..it shows my monitor screen resolutions to 1600*1200..but my display supports only1200*800...is this actual problem ...so how can i change to my actual settings



when i reset my monitor settings to 1200*800...using powerstrip and i update with my original bios and restart..it show 1200*800...but when i update my nvidia driver it again dhow 1600*1200...
so i hope u got my point ,,so please help me ,,,it is hell for me past 1 year.....

Thanks but I couldn't get it to work. I therefore tried the following tutorial and the graphics driver was installed with the correct resolution.

Naresh9, try uninstalling the current graphics driver and then get the latest update from Nvidia site. I don't know what powerstrip is so I would try installing the update without using powerstrip and see if the problem goes away.

Anyway when I installed the desktop driver for my card I ran the downloaded exe and it extracted successfully but when it got to the installation part it failed.

I then modified the NV_DISP.inf file as stated in the tutorial and I went to device manager, right clicked on standard vga card Clicked update driver software. selected Browse my computer. selected Let me pick from a list. selected Have disk. selected Browse. Found the NV_DISP.inf I just edited and double clicked on it. Selected ok and it installed.

I then restarted the laptop and the problem was fixed

Running setup.exe wasn't required after restarting the laptop.

I hope the above will assist those who do have Sony vaio laptops.
