Problems with wireless network after System Restore

I've been having problems (weird things going on with iTunes, games crashing) so I decided to use System Restore to roll back. Since then my wireless network is no longer working - that is, there IS a network, and my wireless devices (printer, iPhone, Xbox, PS3) recognise it, but they can't connect. I think when I did the system restore it screwed up settings. I've tried the troubleshoot option in Windows 7 and it says I have no problems. I turned off the router and restarted etc. ANyone have any idea what might be going wrong and how I can fix?

One! Stop using system restore.... makes more problems then it fixes.

Could you please let us know what was going on with the system. Specify the problems.... then we can go deeper into it.

Basically I think my motherboard has some serious problems - I keep getting crash errors in World of Warcraft that point to motherboard problems, plus when I took the PC into the repair shop last time the guy advised me the MB was not likely to hold out much longer. But - the PC still works for the most part so I have just got on with it. Issue started when I tried to install the new version of iTunes. After installing it refused to load. Lots of people had this problem - I tried reinstalling, etc etc and couldn't get it to work. So, I did SR thinking it would help. Ever since, my devices have refused to connect to the WN. They "see" it, but not connecting. Nothing was changed on the settings and it has worked flawlessly up til now (I live in the UK and have BT Broadband). Let me know what other specifics you need to know and thanks for the response.

So...

For one... the guy from the shop can never predict on whether or not your mother board is going to last out much longer unless your holding togther by some chewing gum and the stickiness is wearing out.

If the motherboard goes, it goes! No if's, and's, or but's and when it does go.. you will know.

The only real thing you can tell whether or not if something is going to go is for example: Hard Drive: not always but sometimes... you will hear a clicking sound... more than likely you might as well start looking for a hard drive to back up your things and going to buy a new one. Your cd rom makes some motor noises... more than likely the motor is going bad on it. you know common sense ones.

So you have only stated that your computer was perfectly fine until you installed iTunes... do you think maybe that some files in iTunes maybe some of the files are conflicting with some programs in your computer. Have you tried to uninstall iTunes all together and did a delete of all the TEMP files out of the computer.

Also you may want to try to unintall your wireless NIC drivers and reinstall it.

Yes I have a pretty good idea what is going on here, and I agree that system restore doesn't work very well at all.

Adobe Photoshop and itunes installs some Apple service called bonjour, which is basically a network connection and such shows up as unidentified network which tends to cause all sorts of problems.

To fix ...
Run MsConfig

Under the Services tab uncheck the service called ""##Id_String2.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B87 9762 ##"... " by Apple

To get rid of all traces of bonjour do this.

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Bonjour
2. Rename the mdnsNSP.dll file in that folder to mdnsNSP.old
3. Restart your computer
4. Delete the Program Files\Bonjour folder

After that reboot, if bonjour was the problem it will be fixed now.

I have an older HP laptop with Windows 7 installed and after performing a system restore, my wireless connection is no longer working either. The adapter is installed, but the blue light no longer comes on, and i've tried turning on the wireless and turning it off using the external button and still nothing happens -- there just aren't any wireless connections detected (even though there is one)

I tried undo the restore, but all restore points are now (conveniently) missing....

not meaning to hijack this thread but I am experiencing an issue like described..
