Solved PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_ERROR 0x000000b6

The issue recurred, and I was able to save some time because of a system image, which still wasn't as updated as I would have liked it to be.... I believe I know why this entire sordid set of events happened.

Since I was dual booting Windows 7 & 8, rebooting from one to another produced the "The recycle bin on X: is corrupt. Do you want to empty it?" dialog. In addition, Windows 8 kept finding file system errors that had to be fixed by chkdsk. Again and again and again....

There seem to be 2 reasons for this :
  • Changing the permissions of the recycle bin seems to trigger this message
  • Keeping Hiberboot enabled results in the boot drive of windows 8 to be marked "dirty", which windows 7 tries to fix, unhelpfully.
  • I suspect some more factors mucking it up
Basically, each time windows 8 booted up it found something messed up, and offers to clean it up, putting it in found.000. This happened enough times that I noticed the size of Windows 7 reduced a lot, almost to 20GB, and then it stopped booting... With all the symptoms encountered in this thread. One of the major effects of this is that all restore points in the Windows 7 drive were deleted, in the process of fixing filesystem errors.

So I don't think the issue is fully solved yet : What do I do to keep Windows 7 and 8 off each others' territory?

I am not going to boot into windows 8 till I get some more data and solutions, so counting on you guys....

Now it's solved partially after I disabled HiberBoot in windows 8... I restart into another OS occasionally, but the Recycle Bin corruption thing still exists.

Windows explorer, good file copying UI and speed, fast startup (I want to get it to work), fast ISO mounting, etc.

Should I open a new thread for this? Windows 7 and 8.1 dual booting can't be that uncommon...

Hi All,

First of all, I know that this thread is quite old, but I wonder to share with you guys my experience....

2 days ago I faced a similar problem with my Win7 (enterprise-64bits). BSOD issue QUITE similar to T
the one that milindsmart described. I read a lot of threads in different forums (a lot of garbage and non-technical solutions (or not useful ones)), also MS KBs and articles.... BUT I found THIS thread in particular very interesting in the way you guys took the time to investigate the issue and try to resolve it.

so, going back to my issue, --The funny thing here is that I was unable to use my restore points! (I am sure I had the ones created by the system and some created by me). but... they were lost in some "system action"...--, i was unable to boot win7, only recovery console. I used a hirens boot cd (lunched a mini-xp but my physical disk was not recognized). the only way to have access to the drive was by msft recovery console.

I deleted bootcat.cache, as it is mentioned in: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/981833
but the SOLUTION was this:
--From a machine with the same version of the OS you have, get the following files:
- bootcat.cache (from c:\windows\system32\codeintegrity )
- all the files inside "{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}" folder inside: c:\windows\system32\catroot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
NOTE: in my case, this folder was empty!!!!

IT SOLVES THE PROBLEM!!!! :)

In my case, the 0x7B error was caused by an incorrect bootcat cache in the windows/system32/codeintegrity directory. My fix was rather tricky. Because I know no one running Win 7, I decided to run my own working machine. I used VirtualBox in Linux to install and run Windows 7. This works great. I ended up emailing myself the VirtualBox version of Windows 7's bootcat.cache. This got my realworld machine to boot.
