Processor settings in msconfig

Hi! I have a quad-core AMD Athlon II 640 Processor. I always figured I have all 4 cores running at the same time, but today I noticed in msconfig>boot>advanced>number of processors that the default number of processors is one. I've recently had a number of freezes, and wondered if i were to increase the number of processors, would my computer's behavior change at all?

That's perfectly normal. These options are only intended for troubleshooting and program compatibility issues (rare). Providing that the checkboxes for both Number of processors: and Maximum memory: are both unchecked (i.e. don't have a tick in them), you shouldn't have an issue and your system should be using both the full amount of memory installed and all available CPU cores.

That refers to motherboards and server boards that can use more than one processor.
I assume you only have one processor in your PC, like most of us,
so you can leave it as it is.

Soz pal but that isn't the case, it also refers to the number of cores on your single processor.

From what I've read it's best to leave all the boxes unticked and let windows handle it all
