Profile wiped out again

In this thread, I discussed that my profile had been wiped on my other machine:
https://www.sevenforums.com/general...top-start-menu-items.html?423941=#post3474789

It just happened again. I hadn't had a chance to perfect it enough to do an image backup.
And Classic Shell won't even restore from its own backups, which aren't in my profile, but on the Data partition.

I don't get the error message about profile failing to load.

I need to find out why this is happening. That computer is supposed to be the backup of this one. Is it MS telling me 7 has expired?
..........
A clue? My user name is Prize-02. That's been renamed Prize-02.GATE (the network name of that machine) and a new Prize-02 has been created, with only the Firefox cache in AppData\Roaming...etc. Nothing else.

I copied everything from the old profile to the new one, re-started by "Switching User" instead of just "Restart," and chose between "Administrator" and "Prize-02. Almost everything is back. I still need to find out why this is happening. How do i force it to start with that screen, instead of loading the Admin. User account?

Lost everything again after I tried #5. I can choose myself on the Welcome Screen, but I get an almost blank generic screen except for Recycle Bin, and an error message in the systray "You've been logged onto a temporary account. You can't access your files....This profile will be removed. Try logging on again."

#4 gave me the same blank screen.

Don't even think of wiping Windows. I have years of OS tweaks and close to 60 programs.

Did System Restore back to 8/25, which is the oldest, and should have worked. Same blank screen because it can't load my profile. But it's still in the usual place on C. And in Control Panel\User Accounts, there's both Administrator and mine. But it won't load.

In summary, the only way I can get my profile is by first logging onto the Admin account, then clicking "switch User." So I'll do that till a solution is found.

I would try a fresh profile and copy over documents, music, pics, bookmarks, and firefox or chrome. Everything else can be rebuilt. Also do you have local or roaming profiles enabled?

I have about 10 or 15 of each, Chrome, Firefox, Waterfox and Thunderbird, Irfanview, Open Office, etc.
Won't changing my user name screw up my network?

Are you referring to file shares? Yes you will need to redo them provided that they are user based and not group based. For basic internet connectivity, not likely unless it's based on something running in your profile. At least creating one and testing with that would help with troubleshooting. You didn't answer if you are using local or roaming profiles. If you have a weird network setup going on we probably need the details. I think that something is wrong with some of the files on that profile hence my suggestion.

I said I have roughly 15 each of local and roaming profiles.

I don't know what this means: "Yes you will need to redo them provided that they are user based and not group based." I'm not a domain, if that's what you mean.

I had been using the same user name on all 3 machines to make networking easier. I'll make a new user, but I'll be discarding it after this test.

You have 15 user accounts? Please explain your setup.

No, I have one Windows profile. I have about 10 or 15 programs each that have made user profiles in either Local or Roaming. Chrome, Thunderbird, Firefox, Waterfox, Garmin, Classic Shell, Glary, etc. So very few of my programs function properly with a screwed-up Win profile. I'll get to this today.

OK, I made another admin account, then rebooted. It opened automatically to the Hidden Admin account again without any choices on the Welcome screen. Rebooted again and I'm still in the Hidden Admin account. The new account isn't listed in Users, but my old account is still there.

How to log on to Windows 7 automatically - CNET

If a new standard profile works I would stick with that copying over the browsers, bookmarks, pics, music, and documents. I really don't think you need to worry about anything else because as you open up the programs you use they will create the necessary files.

System One System Two

I've made new accounts twice. It still boots up automatically to the Admin without showing the Welcome screen. If I log Admin off, then it shows the screen with all the accounts.

So I tried the netplwiz process, and the box is already unchecked, but I can't select any accounts other than the Admin there, which is already selected. screenshot 10 — Postimages

As before, I can get to another profile only by logging out of Admin, not restarting, but logging into one of the others. That's where I was before.

Can I do something in lusrmgr?

Check the box in netplwizto to force users to enter in a password. The article I posted is for automatic login and you do the opposite to disable it. I posted it so you'd know where to go. Sorry for the confusion.
