Program Hangs

I'm not sure what the exact cause of the problem is, but any help or advice would be appreciated.

I'm having a serious problem with my web browser (have tried Firefox, IE, and Chrome with same results), Windows Media Player, the video game Second Life, and Adobe Flash. Each of these programs, and so far only these programs, have an issue with frequent locking up for anywhere between thirty seconds and several minutes while I try to use them on my computer. My browser and the flash issues might be related, as the both of them seem to only happen during loading, so my browser might just be hanging as it waits for flash or something. This, however, wouldn't explain Windows Media Player. The program locks up most frequently during audio and video playback, but will happen even if I'm not.

There is one particularly strange symptom of the entire problem, which happens if I try to close the program in Task Manager. Often, hitting "End Task" will not bring up the usual prompt of "program has stopped responding" until -after- the program has stopped hanging, which makes me believe it might be a problem within Windows itself. Even going straight to ending the process won't actually close anything or stop the process until the issue passes, making the whole option rather pointless.

I'm at my wit's end on this one, my computer is virtually unusable. I'm using 64-bit Windows 7 Professional if it helps, any advice would be welcomed.

Hi and welcome

One way to check is to go into event viewer. type eventvwr in search the next time it hangs. go to the windows logs>application tab. You are going to be looking for errors. they have red in the left hand column. there is a lot of data. they are there. You are looking for errors that say app hang, app freeze, app crash.

Use the built in snipiing ool (type snipping in search) to make a screen shot of one. Then using the attachment icon (shapped like a paper clip) in teh repply form to upload. see the pics

There is absolutely nothing in the event viewer that coincides with these hangs.

Edit: Just happened again, at the same time this was added to my system events

2:17:52 PM "The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service entered the stopped state."
2:18:24 PM "The Windows Error Reporting Service service entered the running state."

You said that it might be your browser. Try this, type turn windows in the search box. Click on turn windows features on and off. Once there uncheck IE. You cannot browse until you reinstall, but you wiil know if the problem is the result of a conflict with the browser.

I'm having the same problem. I get the system event message: "The Windows Error Reporting Service entered the running state" each time the computer hangs.

What's interesting is that it only happens while using Firefox. I ran Firefox in Safe Mode with all extensions/plugins disabled and the error persists. Like you said it lasts for up to 3 minutes and then the computer really slows down and I can't access any other programs. So whatever is causing Firefox to hang is causing the rest of the PC to hang as well. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. See my PC's system info file: View attachment 148252

Really really glad someone is having the same problems. I have EXACTLY the same problem as philippz.

Only seems to happen in firefox although I do use that the most so its hard to say for sure. But checking the event viewer I get:

The Windows Error Reporting Service service entered the running state.

Did anyone have any joy with this?

Really need to get this fixed.

This error seems to coincide with the following events under Windows Logs/Security:

• An account was successfully logged on.
• Special privileges assigned to new logon.

The entries have the same exact time as the System entry saying "Windows Error Reporting Service entered the running state". And after 3 minutes it says the same but "stopped state".

Lately I have been having these hangs less frequently - once a day instead of multiple times a day. Also it happens in other programs as well, so it doesn't seem to be Firefox related. I'm suspecting the graphics card driver and the LAN card driver might have something to do with that, based on my research. I suggest updating those drivers.

I have an AMD Radeon HD 5800 series video card and an Intel network card (I'm not using the one built into the motherboard). CPU is AMD Phenom X2 555.
