programs open slower !!!

hi,

i have 40 gb ide drive with win 7 64-bit & 4 gb ram ... this drive is just for net usage ... just recently it takes 10 min to windows login (after password) ... another 20 mins for opera ... 5-10 min for other programs/applications ... bt once they are open, its no problem @ all ... even if i close & open, its just secs for all applications ... basically 1st opening of all programms takes time ... plz help

Your drive is probably full and win doesn't have space to the temp files and / or virtual memory.
- Do a disk cleanup - %windir%\system32\cleanmgr.exe
- Buy a 120G SSD (Cost only $40) PNY CS1311 2.5" 480GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SSD7CS1311-480-RB - Newegg.com
- Clone the drive with Macrium Macrium Reflect Free

win temp folder is empty & user profile temp folder is almost with only 2 files of 10 kb each

& i have virtual memory (pagefile.sys/swap file) of 2 gb on c drive ...

If you don't use Hibernate, you can disable it and you won't have the 'hiberfil.sys' (and gain 2G disk space)
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
At the command prompt, type powercfg -h off , and then press Enter.
Type exit, and then press Enter to close the Command Prompt window.

no hiberfil.sys ... created a new pagefile.sys (6 gb) ... bt still the same ... should i disable power service ...

Schedule a check disk: type chkdsk c: /f
Run System File check: sfc /scannow

You have no idea how a SSD drive can improve your system.
My recommendation:
- Buy a 120G SSD (Cost only $40) PNY CS1311 2.5" 480GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SSD7CS1311-480-RB - Newegg.com
- You don't need Win7 64 bits with 4G of memory. Do a clean install of Win7 32. Clean Install Windows 7
- For the updates - MS releases SP2 for Windows 7
- If you don't have a graphics card, 0.8 G will be used by the on board card (even if you do have)

problem solved ... seems was with some services i had disabled ... changed them to auto ... now its working fine ...

will def get ssd drive ...

When you do get a ssd, I would suggest a 120 to 250 gb in size.
This will give you enough room to do things and room to grow.

found out today ... main culprit was ccleaner software ... removed it ... now back to normal ...

Ccleaner is a great program.

You can try this.
Install Ccleaner and then go to msconfig/Startup and make sure Ccleaner is unchecked and reboot.
See if that solves your problem.

CCleaner has a monitoring feature that runs even if CCleaner isn't loaded.

You don't have to uninstall it. Select Options - Monitoring - Uncheck Enable system monitoring.
