I bought a PS3 a couple of years ago after being an avid gamer on my pc for many years, I just wanted to see if I was missing anything ?

I tried for over a year to get used to playing 1st person shooter and adventure games but I could never get the speed and accuracy I have with my pc where I use a keyboard and mouse combo :(

I have now sold my PS3 and just have a Wii for social stuff with my family, and use my pc for all my games, the only games that where marginally better on the PS3 where the good driving games but not enough to warrant keeping it ;)

IMHO, a console is only worth for its exclusive games, no more no less. Like the lazy a******s who produced Heavy Rain and the creators of Uncharted, stuff like that.

I prefer PC over console. My desktop and laptop PC's are far better machines than either a 360 or PS3. The only thing I lack is a BD player, and I really have no need for one on either of my PC's. I have a 360, but I only use it to play games that I can't get for the PC (Madden football series, for example). I also use it as a DVD player, and I watch Netflix movies on it as well.

This is just my opinion, but a PC is far superior, but only if you have the right hardware. PC also allows you to use trainers if you prefer, and you can do modding as well.

I have an Xbox 360 and a Wii to complement my PC and I have to say that in terms of gaming, I do more of it on my consoles I guess mostly because in the past, I had a weak system that couldn't keep up with my 360. Now that I've upgraded, I have to say that I still do most of my gaming on consoles because I haven't really found any compelling games to get me to play on the PC. I have a lot of old Gamecube exclusive titles that I play on my Wii and there are some 360 games I have that I just cannot get on my PC or play better on my 360 (any racing games). Though I do game on my PC from time to time and do prefer certain things about it, there's nothing like the comfort of a joystick while sitting on the couch for a racing session on a large screen TV.

I don't comment on online play as I don't really care for it. In my experience, there are just too many individuals that ruin the experience.

I prefer the quality of gaming on a pc although the first game I tried to install on my new pc gave me issues right away. It is very frustrating when you pay big money for a pc (mostly to play games) and the game doesn't run properly. I almost imediately kicked myself for getting a pc because I suck at fixing issues with a pc. It depends on how much patience you have when it comes to software issues and whether or not its worth it to you to play with a mouse and keyboard. So far I haven't regretted it despite the issues I've had with a couple of games.

Seems like game designers aren't even trying with the PC anymore. Most games that are designed for the PC are so horrid when they're released they require extensive patching right out of the box. Totar War comes to mind.

If that wasn't bad enough, I'm stuck on dial-up, and there's a disturbing trend of everything requiring a constant internet connection and activation through Steam. It's not worth it anymore to bother with PC games.

I bought this computer to play video games among other things last year only to determine lately that I should have saved myself the trouble and just bought a ps3 and a lower end computer for my web designing, graphics, and audio/video media endeavors.

Oh well, lesson learned, I guess.

Yeah, DSL is $70 a month before any other fees they want to stick you with on top of a contract, and satellite will never appease since it's also more expensive AND comes with a lame download limit. Those are the options here. Which is really too bad because if there was ever an argument for PC gaming over console gaming it would definitely be in the MMO category. I'm going to miss out on Star Wars and Guild Wars. Totally sucks.

I would have to say to get the PS3, it can be a better gaming experience and there is an extremely wide selection of games, and you can also play PS2 games when you download the free backwards compatibility software from the PS Store

I don't blame people for switching. With more game titles and less frequent hardware updates needed (usually only when they come out with a new console) it can be a better experience. However, I still think pc games blow away console games and if more people stayed with pc's they would make more games. I still see ton of people online in the pc games I play.

I have an XBOX360 and might be getting a Wii because it really is fun to play.

But for Serious games like ANY FPS,,, PC all the way.
Consoles are good for certain games and Racing.

RPG, FPS games are always far far far superior on PC. And always will be.

However..... Red Dead Redemption,, is great fun on Xbox.

I agree with Tepid and would like to add that the whole RTS genre is practically only playable on PCs. If you want a brain workout: Warcraft+Starcraft is the way to go.
I remember playing Baldur's Gate when I was a kid... Such an awesome RPG game, but so so so friggin' difficult! I could never get away from it on my own. xD

Like I said in my previous posts, a console is only worth for its exclusive games, no more no less, so as long as you watch what you buy and play on a console, you should stick with both. Why? Well, just a few small examples: Crysis was never released on consoles (and IMHO C2 shouldn't be either), and Dragon Age: Origins gameplay was seriously limited on consoles because of the camera movements. Besides, how many times have you played a game such as Prince of Persia which had awkward and frustrating camera angles on a console, but would produce much better results and had more freedom to be manipulated on the PC port.

On the other hand, consoles host some great games such as Uncharted, which would be a shame to miss out on.

Yeah, that is the one thing I did miss. Real Time Strategy Games are a must play on PC only.
Trying to play them on a console (and I have) is near impossible. Unless you have 5 minutes to wait till the cursor moves where you want it. Even when they try to make all the buttons do what you need, they never get them really optimally right.

Just to add my $0.02, same as what the others recommend: get a PS3 only if you really want the exclusives.

"Wide selection of games"? Trust these guys, nothing beats the PC. I can tolerate crap PC games because there are so many others that I don't even need to think about the crap ones. However, the crap PS3 games will forever stare back at me from the depths of the online store. I mean, I really enjoyed stuff like Uncharted and Valkyria Chronicles, but then I look at something like Fat Princess and it makes me despair. I'm not saying FP is awful - in fact I got a few enjoyable evenings out of it - but try to look at it from a technical standpoint: is this kind of game really something representative of what the PS3 can do? It's a waste of the machine's capabilities - and your money. To put it bluntly, it's filler; something you'd expect to see in the shovelware-dominated catalog of the Wii.

My recommendation is only get the PS3 if you really want to play those exclusives and can afford to take the $$$ hit.
