You're forgetting one simple fact.
Competition ......
Best way to drive development, new ideas and prices.

Intel already doesn't have much to compete with in desktops, yeh, AMD? not even a fraction of there size.
ATI kept Nvidia honest in gpu's, just.
These days ATI with AMD against Nvidia, it's good competition, which GPU's better?, next model it changes.

Intel takes over Nvidia??? just too big, most smaller companies would disappear.
Then the Intel bean counters will say, why put so much money into development?

There's no-one to compete with.

A small company with a new idea, still needs a lot of money for development.

The idea/patent is bought out the largest company and shelved.

People have missed the point

There will ALWAYS be scope for small company startups who will provide niche products.

All I can say about INTEL is that on any machine I've ever had (and I'm not a gamer so my remark might not be valid) the INTEL Video has worked absolutely "Straight out of the box" whilst I've had problems with companies like NVIDIA, S3 (remember them) etc etc. - especially when using other OS'es than Windows - such as SUSE Linux.

That's my experience anyway.

BMW / Mercedes make decent top of the line cars -- but that doesn't stop some really small companies making good interesting niche indivual cars - some of these companies themselves may be the "BMW" of the future.

Remember the tiny upstart years ago called Microsoft competing with the then almighty IBM.

I wouldn't be concerned in the slightest if Intel acquire Nvidia.

IBM released the info for the motherboard to the world because IBM thought that a personal computer was a novelty and did think it would take off.........
That started the IBM Compatible Computer market and board makers market.
Young Bill saw the market when the PC-compatible started because there wasn't much of an operating system for it.
He then did the deal of supplying ms-dos, dirt cheap with the new PC-compatible hardware.

With so many board makers competing, drove down the price of the boards(hardware) to reasonable prices, their market got massive.

Apple with cpm as o/s, stuck with propriatory and beat up (sued) anyone trying to copy the hardware.

So tiny Microsoft compete with IBM is not quite right, Microsoft jumped on the bandwagon very early.
Bill was a very clever businessman.

Actually, neither Mercedes nor BMW dominate the market the way Intel does at the moment.
You risk a MS all over again, where Intel gets monopoly over CPU and GPU and consumers are screwed.

And no, there is more or less 0% chance for niche products in CPU and GPU due to ridiculously high starting costs that make impossible any real startup in that field.

yeah, the same way PC gaming is "dying". It just stopped increasing so fast.
I still wait for Intel to place real i86/64 processors in tablets, low-end broadwells seem to be designed for that.

Please no, they're better off like they are. Intel will only ruin everything by making the crazy drive in the SoC industry. I wouldn't want to see dedicated Nvidia cards turned into integrated garbage.

I couldn't say it better myself! I don't want this to happen! I love nVidia! I want it to STAY nVidia and nVidia alone!
