Yea you might shut down and remove the battery and open the back panel and see if more cleaning is needed

Make sure your also using a Non aero desktop theme,
I know eye candy windows glass it cool but 2 gigs of ram is at minimum stat's for win-7,
So use windows classic theme

Aha! The Vista driver worked. Now I can hear my "oh-so-clever" YouTube videos. Well, some useful things, too. Appreciate the help. What can you tell me about driver updater? Cost? Since this computer is 8 years old, maybe I should just run it. I was assuming that installing the W7 disc would automatically find the latest drivers, but maybe not. I don't seem to have any other problems that relate to drivers. Thanks.

I wrote out for you how drivers are handled in Post #15. There is no reason to use a driver finder program for a driver-complete OS. Just follow the steps in that post and read over carefully http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 so you know what works best for Windows 7.

If you ever still come up short on a driver just ask back as you did earlier and one of our driver detectives like Maxie will find it!

A little 2 cents worth from me

CLEANING LAPTOPS

Whatyou can do is to check the air intake aperture and the "rad" and todo that shine a very bright light into the fan aperture and look through fromthe outlet grill
1. You will see if there is a lot of dust in the fan intake and fan blades and2. you will see if the "rad" is blocked in any way when you lookthrough from the outside.

Now to clean you can blow the dust out using compressed air but firstmake sure you insert something into the fan blades before you do - to stop thefan from spinning as spinning the fan with air willcause it to spin at much higher revs than it was designed for and can wreck thebearing.
The rad you can use those chenille wire play things to very gently clean therad from outside the machine and again blow the dust out. It is fiddly buteffective.

Update. All is up and running, thanks to all of you. I had some problems with the MS Train simulator program. It installed ok, and the purchased add-on routes loaded ok, but loading one from the TS forum did not. I finally traced down the problem (some files were not transferred from existing folder to the new folder), but it took a little sleuthing. A big thanks to the writer of the 'Clean install Windows 7' tutorial. This is a great site.
One of the things I have done in the past when reloading is making a document detailing all the little steps for everything I do, including extra programs, etc. Has been a big help. Recommend this plan for anyone doing similar. Installations are easier than the old days; I remember installing a program long ago where I had to manually throw a switch on the motherboard!
