Purchased new 2 TB hard drive-Can't get it to install "wrong" NFTS?

I got a new 2 TB drive for my PC. I never had any trouble installing Windows before. I wanted to make the drive the primary drive.

I keep on getting an error message that Windows's can't be installed on this drive because it is the wrong "NFTS" format? I had never heard of that before. I tried to format it via the installation and it wouldn't let me do that either.

The drive is properly connected. I reinstalled the old hard drive, and kept the new one in there as well. It is recognized and works fine as a "slave" or secondary drive. It is formatted as an NFTS.

Any idea what could be going wrong?

What were the exact words of the error? Just "wrong NTFS format"?

At first I got a black screen saying Windows could not boot to a possible hardware change (it was black "bios" looking screen. Of course Windows could not boot-it was not installed on either drive yet. Then I was able to boot from the DVD player. It appeared the installation started, but then would crash. I then got past that, and then it said it would not install because it is the wrong NFTS format. I wish I would have taken some pictures. Maybe I could just keep this drive as a slave. I would rather have it be the primary since it is much faster.32 MB cache.

I can honestly say I have never heard of this error before, so maybe somebody else can help you out. Sorry.

Hello.

Starting at Step One of this tutorial and since it's a new HDD substitute the clean all with clean (it just takes seconds) to remove any format configuration data and then use either method outlined below to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the install to.

   Note

  • Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
  • If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.
We're now seeing some have serious issues trying to get Windows to install to such large partition/HDDs as 1 & 2TB; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.
