Quest to reduce customise the start menu...

First up, this is not a thread in which to argue the merits/demerits of the current 7 start menu. You either love it or not. What I want to 'try' and achieve is making the existing menu smaller.

If you were a fan of skinning XP, you will undoubtedly have come across skins like hmmxp, Classix, Xtensis... all of these themes, and many others, had one feature in common, you could have a 'full' or 'compact' start menu.

My quest is to try and recreate the 'compact' menu in windows 7.

May I politely request that you don't post if all you want to do is tell me the current start menu is wonderful.

Hello Quill,

You might give the free program Vista Start Menu a try to see how you like it. You can customize it to just about anyway you like it.

My quest is to try and recreate the 'compact' menu in windows 7.

It is basically the same as compacting vista's start menu, afaik. I'm sure they'll be a skin made soon with one.
