I just purchased a new hdd for my pc and before I install it have some questions.
I plan to restore my macrium back up to it
Will the new hdd have to be formatted or will the macrium restore process eliminate the need for a formatting?

What can I expect after the hdd is installed and I turn the PC on?

How will I access the connected external back up drive?

The image on the backup drive is pictured below. How do I start the restore process

Thank you for your help

I use Macrium. Macrium will format and create (and restore) all the partitions to the new drive (I assume your Macrium backup is a full hard drive backup - all partitions. If not you need to do that).

I just did that on a Dell laptop as I replaced the OEM 255GB M.2 SSD with a 500GB M.2 SSD. I made a complete backup of the 255GB SSD, all partitions to a USB connected hard drive. I installed the new drive. I had a Macrium rescue image on a flash drive and booted with the Flash drive. Restored the disc image to the new SSD. Went with out problems. Booted up and worked OK.

However, as the new SSD is 500GB there was an unused partition on the new drive (250GB). I used the free version of "Mini Tool Partition Wizard" to expand the "C" drive partition to the full 500GB.
