Hello I was thinking of building my first pc and am pondering over these specs what do you think?

well if you want us to be honest................ive never come across a good asrock board and if you could stretch your finances to a gtx 460 you will double your gaming performance

If your finances allow, get a 60GB SSD for the OS. That will really boost performance. OCZ and Intel are safe bets-

QFT. I dont think it would hurt, but personally, I wouldn't stick the OS on a 1TB. I always prefer to have a System disc, and a Storage disc. If you ever have to format the system, you wont loose all your data files. (That and i do not believe in partitioning. idk why)


But all and all, what you've listed seems pretty solid.

I pretty much agree with everyone on here.

That ASRock motherboard needs to go.

GPU-wise, go for something with more juice, Radeon HD 6850/GeForce GTX 460, are great solid cards for gaming.

EDIT: Just noticed the PSU. It's a little on the slim side, but I think It should hold up just fine.

If you can, go for something a little beefier, ~600W plus.

I'd go with a Asus or a Gigabyte board...both are solid and allow for overclocking if you so desire (personally I push everything past its defaults)

If you decide on a higher end card a 5850 will suffice as it will run anything currently on the games market. And the price is dropping.

And a PSU with more grunt..650watt or so...Corsair or similiar..

And I see your running Win 7 64..so why don't you consider 4gb of ram??

I agree with everyone else about the motherboard.

ASUS or Gigabyte would be a good starting place here I think.

The PSU:
I really like Xigmateks CPU air coolers. But Im not too sure about their PSUS.
Id stick with a better brand TBH.
Corsair (my personal pref.) or Antec.

As far as you RAM goes, I would recommend picking up a 4GB kit though. (2x2GB)
Kingston seems to be a good brand.
But a couple others I honestly think are worth mentioning & looking into are:
Gskill and Corsair.

Gskill is very good memory, and likely a bit cheaper than the the other 2.

As far as SSDs go:
Since most only use a SSD for the OS and apps, putting all thier other DATA on spinning drives:

A 40 GB Intel @ $99 would be a good value choice.
Also, a bit bigger is the Vertex2 60GB at $135.


Obviously there are bigger,faster, and more expensive ones, but either of these would work nicely and give a huge overall performance boost, and a decent price point.
And both will perform very well.

If your happy and dont want to go sli in the future i dont see any problem with that proposed rig mate , the 460 will be a hell of a boost over the other card

however if you wanted in the future to possible buy another 460 to go sli i would say this is a solid board Gigabyte GA-H55-UD3H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard [GA-H55-UD3H] with two full speed pcie slots

obviously if your not an avid overclocker and not bothered about sli in the future then your choices are sound

from a purely gaming standpoint an ssd isnt really that much of a boost (apart from map load times they will fly!), games that use streaming textures can see a nice improvement but ive not seen any benchmarks that would convince me to shell out the extra cash

They sound great mate.

Corsair is top notch when it comes to PSU's (well, they're top notch when It comes to pretty much anything lol).

I had a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 460 1GB OC'ed not that while ago and, I gotta say, you'll love that card, keeps that GF104 chip cool while making zero noise. Drivers are a little raw at the moment, but NVIDIA is working hard at it (262.99 should bring some much needed optimizations for GTX 400 series cards).

Motherboard looks great as well, can't go wrong with ASUS, although If you really want to save a couple of bucks here, then I'd recommend going with this board right here:

Although, bare in mind, It's a mATX board, so you'll be severely limited expansion wise.

Either way, build is looking great .
