Questions about upgrading to windows 10

Hello. I have recently heard about the windows 10 free upgrade for win7 and 8.1 genuine users.
I have a few questions about that upgrade.

1. I don't have any version of windows installed on my computer, so, if I want to get the new windows 10 when it comes out, is there any difference between: (?)
buying windows 7 now > upgrading free to 10
buying windows 8/8.1 now > upgrading free to 10
buying windows 10 directly when it comes out

Also, what will be the price of windows 10? Should I wait or buy win7 now? Will win10 be cheaper?

2. Are there different versions of windows 10? If so, does it matter if I buy a specific version of win 7/8? For example, if I buy windows 7 home premium or windows 7 ultimate will I get a different version of win10?

3. If I buy an OEM version of windows 7 and install it to my computer, will I get an upgrade to windows 10? If so, will I be able to change the motherboard after I upgrade to win10 or install this version of win10 on a different computer? (not simultaneously of course)

Its best to wait and do a straight install of 10 if that`s what you want.

No need to install 7 or 8, that would be a waste.

You can just install the preview of 10 now, then re install the final version when it comes out, it will be awhile.

You only upgrade if you want to.

No, you won`t be able to change the motherboard.

You would have to own a retail copy of Windows 10 to change hardware.

I say you buy Windows 7 oem for that PC.

I have seen some posts about people being able to change motherboards on computers with windows 8 OEM. Are you sure I won't be able to do so with win10?

Most of your questions cannot be answered due to a lack of detail from Microsoft's own mouth.

It's unknown exactly how the "free" upgrade will be made available. Presumably, you'll be able to upgrade an existing installation of 7, 8, or 8.1 via Windows Update and also be able to download an ISO, but nobody knows what will be available in DVD form from retailers--or at what cost.

The details of any multiple versions of Win 10 are not known.

It's unknown what restrictions might be placed on re-installing the "free" version on new hardware.

It's unknown if the "free" version will amount to a "retail" version for those upgrading from a retail version of Win 7---i.e. can be clean installed to new hardware at will, one PC at a time.

If I currently did NOT have 7, 8, or 8.1 and wanted 10, I'd probably do nothing now and just wait for Win 10 and prepare to pay for 10 then, rather than pay for 7, 8, or 8.1 now. Win 10 cash price may well be less than what you'd pay for any current version of 7, 8. or 8.1.

If you have 7 or 8 installed, 10 will be a free upgrade for the life of that hardware, meaning, if the motherboard or hard drive dies, so does the free upgrade. You then have to buy windows 10.

Unless you own a retail copy of Windows 7 or 8, which you could install on new hardware, then re upgrade to 10, which you don`t.

Either way you`re gonna pay, either you buy 7 or 8 now and upgrade or you buy 10 later.

As I already said, you should just install the preview now and try to enjoy it.

Those of us who participated in Win7 beta were offered very nicely discounted retail copies and opportunities to earn free copies, hence I don't expect it would be any less generous with a new OS that is already planned to have free upgrades.

So, yes, I would get onboard now if you dont' have a retail copy of Win7 or 8 and get involved in the insider program, giving feedback and reading their newletters so you don't miss out on anything. You might even get hooked and become an expert.
