Quick Question

One of my students got one (HP) similar to this one back in June. The picture is deceiving in this link as the slimline is like a small footprint horizontal desktop, only upright. I did not get to open the case to see the inside for the PSU & slot for the video card. :o

But it was a very nice compact computer :D

I don't know why but more times than not with these OEM systems they never list the PSU that it comes with.

However I do know sometimes with Slimline cases and OEMs they don't use a standard sized PSU which makes it difficult to upgrade things thus causing you to be more prone when the time comes to purchase a new system from them.

If it were me I would either call Fry's or if one was nearby check to see that a standard PSU will fit.

As for the Graphics card, Once again seeing and measuring the inside of the case would help determine what card would fit as some of the newer cards are very long and require dual slots.

If you were able to find out if you can easily upgrade your power supply then I know XFX makes a 5 series card that is a single slot card.

And as for the power supply any Branded quality 80% efficiency that meets or exceeds the new cards minimum wattage (actually voltage on the 12V rail)(s) with the proper 6 pin connectors would be fine.

Silverstone makes a small form factor PSU @ around 600W for about $80 I think. Should fit this. Don't know about the insides, but most of these will take a single slot 9" card.

What is the BEST possible power supply and graphics card this case can hold ?
FRYS.com*|*Hp :p

It appears to use a low profile graphics card.

Your upgrade choices will be limited. The most power card that I see in low profile is a Radeon 5670.

My suggestion: it's a nice appliance PC. If you wish to upgrade it to a gaming system, it's perhaps not the wisest course.

XFX makes a Low profile Kit MacMall | XFX Graphics Low-Profile Bracket Kit for XFX Graphics Cards MABK01LP1K The only problem is finding a good card that can use one of the configurations offered.

Here's also what's available from Newegg right now Newegg.com - Low profile Graphics cards

Your at sometime going to need to find out the specs on your PSU before deciding on a card. You might want to try giving the manufacturer a call and see if you can find out.
OEM systems are notorious for using just the lowest wattage PSU in their builds, which could possibly limit your choices as well.

@Etihtarom if you have the link to the silverstone please post it, this Slimline case /Graphics upgrade has been asked before so it would be nice to have an actual link posted for future postings on this issue. Thanks.

Here's a link to MSI's dual fan Radeon low profile 5670 512mb,128bit GDDR5 card Newegg.com - MSI R5670-PD512 Radeon HD 5670 512MB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card with Eyefinity

Evidently Nvidia offers a GTS450 but here's a link right now for a GT430 if your looking for an Nvidia card
Asus 1024MB GDDR3 GeForce GT 430 DSub / DVI / HDMI PCI-E, Retail with Low Profile Bracket [ENGT430/DI/1GD3] from Overclock.co.uk

Will keep looking but will still need that PSU rating before we can actually nail one down for you. I'm guessing t's a 250w based on these. but thier is also a 300w listed as well.

Silverstone makes a small form factor PSU @ around 600W for about $80

450W actually,

Newegg.com - SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

which is about the most powerful SFX PSU you will find.

Personally a better idea would be something like this,

Newegg.com - Antec Sonata III 500 Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply

and move everything out of that slimline case. Good size case with a decent 500W power supply.

Agree with Stormy, the slim case limits upgrading both the PSU and the graphics card.

A big powerful low profile graphics card will produce a lot of heat in that small case and that is not good.
