Solved Quicken 2003 printer function disabled

Reinstall is not an option. Quicken no longer supports and 2 automatic patch downloads were always necessary. Later versions broke an important (to us) function. Hence, a newer version not a solution.

The program will now not print check registers/reports. On the menu, under File are 3 printer setup choices. The first for statements and such and the other 2 for other data output. Click on the second and third choices and you can correctly configure. Click on the first, the one we need, and nothing happens.

Several computer wide other problems cropped up (all I've fixed) coincidentally with the install of Office 365 and problems installing an email account web server connector that hung the machine on shutdown requiring a hard boot. On those two occasions Windows boot highlighted start Windows normally and I did. I did run chkdsk and all was clean.

Any Macgyver suggestions on getting the program/printer right? I'm assuming that an earlier restore point won't help since the problem involves a program not the OS alone?

Not so; restore points track any programs not just Windows alone. It's User data that is not affected.

You seem to be saying Print just stopped working one day for no apparent reason. I'd have been inclined to try an earlier Restore Point myself, assuming a timely one was available, but now given all the other things you found & fixed the older RP may be daunting.

If you have to use that ancient version, maybe the Quicken community will have someone with knowledge about it. I used it many years ago but since have updated 3 or 4 times at least.

Good information on the restore point. She not only doesn't have an ancient point but the two she has are so recent they only precede the Kerio Connector problematic install, not 365. The problems fixed were simple and few--a broken Word 2010 shortcut, the mini 'action to take' when inserting a flash drive (which resolved itself the next day) and something else minor I forgot. I'll try the restore point after she finishes a current, important task.

I can only suggest Mark that if a Restore does not get 2003 working again, and you have no Image backups of that computer (for shame! ;)), that you scour the PC for traces of the two updates you say are no longer available from Intuit. Maybe they are there, that they were downloaded and not deleted by Quicken when they were applied, and if you can find them then you might try a Reinstall from scratch.

I keep downloads Forever myself, but the oldest "update" I can find in my stash is Qkn2007R5.exe. Maybe if you search on e.g. Q*.exe you might find yours.

A couple of good points and I'll try them. I acknowledge culpability with the images. I got so feed up with Acronis that I deleted it from both our machines. I was always running into restore problems--almost better not having the image than thinking you do and...

I do have one image from 2/15 and as a last gasp, all else fails, I could reinstall Acronis and attempt a restore and then a zillion updates--all the data is safe in a few locations.

Yikes 2/15. I would be inclined instead to talk your client out of that report she (thinks she) can't live without, or better yet bit the bullet and get latest Quicken.

I have had good luck with Acronis, but admit at the same time that I normally make my image backups by rebooting the PC to an .iso rather than do them from Windows, with everything running. I think latest ATI does better with this but old habits die hard.

So every Monday I re-start my PC to the Acronis tool and make an image backup.

The client is my wife :-). She's tried newer Quicken versions several times over the years but the program eliminated an important function and just gets more bloated with BS to justify cash flow.

My images are over the network to my wife's second drive and that likely adds to the probability of failure. I've tried to restore the first of a sequential set only to be told Acronis can't find the initial file--which is the one I'm restoring. Then I've been told a file is corrupted even though I have the image set to initial verify and then monthly.

Back in the day with the first iteration of Ghost, the darn thing was simple, straight forward and worked like a charm.

I'm just waiting for Lenovo to ship the new P series so I can have a second internal drive. Once in hand I'll be reinstalling Acronis or better if available.

You're not going to believe this but there's a Quicken community super user who has maintained all the patches for all the versions of Quicken.

Problem may be solved :-).

Actually I do believe it. We users of Quicken are anal almost beyond rationality. :geek:

I do think though there was some point at which MS out-distanced Intuit i.e. that I was forced to update Quicken maybe by Windows 7. Or maybe it was just a conspiracy...
