Radeon 9250 dual monitors

Hi, i installed this card in my new emachine. one monitor in the vga port and the other in the dvi port using a div-vga converter. i get two identical screens, instead of one large extended screen. how do i fix this? thanks in advance.

the radeon card is for xp, but windows 7 recognized it.

That's the extent of W7's dual/multi monitor management.

You'll require additional software for enhanced functionality I'm afraid.

You should be able to configure this by right-clicking on your desktop and choosing "Screen resolution" - there you should be able to select a main monitor and enable extended desktop for the other one.

Either DisplayFusion or Ultramon might do the job.

Wait and see what others suggest though, someone may have good links to decent freeware

You'd need the Catalyst bundle for that, not merely the card driver package.

just googled "Catalyst bundle" and didn't get any relevant hits. is it really this hard to run dual monitors on a windows machine? thank you for all the replies, i really need to get this to work.

Pick a monitor by clicking on its image(or select it from the display drop-down), select "Extend desktop to this display" under Multiple Displays - then you should see a check box to "Make this my main display." Pick which ever one you want (you can rearrage the position of the monitors by dragging the icons where you want them).

I just took a peek at AMD's support site, assuming the Catalyst package would be there for a 9250 and I note they only currently support 9500 and later cards in this respect.

Facts are this is an old card and if you could lay hands on a 9550 or 9600 you'd get a little more flexibility, slightly better support, and a small performance nudge.

i only get one monitor icon. i see what you are saying, thank you. i wonder why only on monitor is detected? if i plug a monitor into either port by it's self the monitor will work.

Unfortunately, I'm guessing it is as Qdos has suggested - a driver issue. Might be time for an upgraded card...

Are you really talking about a Radeon 9250 8xAGP card? They've been discontinued for such a long time the only sources are PC reclaim, eBay, etc!

The 9250's are still available out in the wild, but I think they are primarily targeted for folks that are still stuck with either an AGP or old-style PCI graphics interface on their motherboard. Even so, there are fresher alternatives including the HD 3650 and HD 4650 that support an AGP interface, and the HD 2400 PRO for PCI. But if you have an available PCIe x16 slot then your choices become much improved.

Does your motherboard support any more advanced graphics interfaces? Even AGP will give you much better results than the standard PCI bus.

Can you fill in your system specifications completely please?

Until you show exactly what hardware you're using there is likely to be a little confusion cropping up...
