Hi,
I have Dell U2311h monitor which has 1xDVI 1xVGA and 1 Display port.
I used one DVI for PS3.I purchased Sapphire HD 6850 graphic card which has display port output.
I thought of connecting the video card to the display port of the monitor so i get one displayport adapter but it does not work.
My question is if i purchase a Displayport male to displayport male cable will it work out of the box or i need any other adapter.
Please let me know.
Also how will be the quality when using HDMI to VGA will there be any loss or distortion ?
Thank you

Hi there, Welcome to the forums :)

So you're trying to connect a Standard Display Port cable into a monitor and a 6850? I see no issue in that.

For the HDMI and VGA cables it wont work without a converter as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is a digital signal. A standard converter cable wont do the job. DVI > VGA and DVI > HDMI works as it supports both signal types.

Even if you purchased the correct converter there is bound to be a loss in quality. In short hand no it isn't advisable to go from HDMI to VGA.

(You can purchase converters for display ports.)

That should be ok. Before you buy it consider an adapter to VGA/DVI/HDMI as they appear cheaper.

No actually all the other connections (VGA,DVI) are already connected to other devices, i got only displayport left.So only i picked this.
Thanks

You can buy adapters that double up VGA but its your choice

Something along the line of this TWIN DOUBLE DUAL VGA CABLE SPLITTER TO TWO TV VIEWS UK | eBay

There will be a small quality loss due to it being analogue but it could save you a lot of cash.

Honestly it is up to you, I recommend sticking to a digital connection like DVI Dell X2026 DVI-I (M) to DVI-D (F) & VGA (F) Y Splitter Cable 0X2026 | eBay

Again this is brainstorming. I am just trying to help you claw back some of that cash, the other belkin cable will do fine but awfully expensive.
If you see that same cable which an unknown brand costs $6 and this belkin costs $55 i dont know what is the difference. But i will try your other options. Thanks a lot

The difference is usually the quality of the materials used in the cable. Example the qualty of wiring used and the tubing can be fabric instead of just rubber. Analogue items like an audio cable usually benefit from the cables but with digital signals its nearly always the same. The only main reason you need a high quality cable in my opinion is for sensitive equipment which needs to be fine tuned.

This DP cable should do fine Display Port DP Cable Male to Male Displayport 6ft 1.8m | eBay
