does anyone know where l could get some RAM for a packard bell Easynote TJ68? currently my laptop only has 4GB, and about a year ago it was giving off quite a few BSODs however when l reinstalled l had not experienced one in a while, however lve had another one and remembering the RAM tests l know there seem to be two different brands of RAM in there which is unusual.

suffice to say lm hoping to acquire a matched pair for my laptop ideally 8GB but lve had problems trying to find supported ram as lve looked in the past..

Your awesome for reading this.
a friend did link me there, but they only had up to 4GB, was hoping to get 8GB given the chance.

Are you sure it will support 2x4GB modules? The specs for several models say 4GB (2x2GB) max.

the funny thing about all the online specs l saw noted 32bit OS's not 64bit and lve seen 8gb modules sold for it, ld always meant to get a larger matched pair but l never got round to it and its become harder to find compatible ram.

An issue is that the computer may have only a 32-bit CPU in it, limits the OS to the 32-bit version which in turn limits the amount of RAM. Most times the limit as displayed in Properties of Computer/My Computer will be 3.2GB to 3.5GB or thereabouts. I do have one computer running 32-bit Windows that has 4GB RAM and on that panel shows 4GB. An Anomoly?

actually the system currently has only 4GB in it, the OS reports that it is running a 64bit OS, and lve just checked the spec of the CPU which is a Intel® Celeron® Processor T3300 and as you can see intel reports it as being a dual core 64bit CPU.

I just thought I'd mention it so you can check your notebook specs. Some OEMs limit memory on specific models by the chipset and BIOS. They sell computers. Windows x64 (user versions) will handle 192GB but few motherboards do. Crucial does report 8GB max for a TJ68? (sic) but I would verify that against PB specs for your exact model . Crucial has been wrong before--They SELL memory.

well lve popped off an email to packardbell for information.. since they can get information from the serial number l provided l hope they can at least provide tech information on whats supported.

on the relation of bsods, l did load up blue screen view and it didnt find any bsod dumps, my guess is either its pointing to the wrong dir for dumps or it didnt save the information.. but from what l caught of the blue screen did mention ntldr or at least something resembling the name (it was too quick to tell).

opened up the laptop, memory notes its KN.1GB0G.016 and KN.2GB07.003

lm told the DIMM slots support DDR2 667/800 MHz (PC2-5300/PC2-6400) or DDR3 1066 MHz DDR3 (PC3-8500) SO-DIMM, but l want to be sure l get the right stuff.

l might look into replacing the drive as well..

Usually DDR2 and DDR3 will not fit in the same sockets. Haven't seen a motherboard accept different types memory modules in a long time and they didn't fit the same sockets, boards had both types and as I recall had a jumper to choose one or the other. They didn't last long on the market.

Your numbers show they are both DDR2 modules.

indeed, any idea of compatible 8GB kits? l did find one on amazon and ebay but we are talking £130 tho when l googled lm assuming most of what l was finding was PC Ram which cost little more than £50 for a matched set.

Is your Notebook actually a tj68-au-052uk? If so it does use up to 8GB DDR2 RAM. Crucial.com - DRAM, solid state drive (SSD) memory upgrades for Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS offers only a maximum of 4GB kits, 2 x 2GB modules [at $56USD as a comparison]. I would think most DDR2 PC2-5300 or PC2-6400 modules would work as long as they were both the same but experimenting would be costly. When I junk computers I keep any usable RAM so I can do that experimenting.

PC RAM is a different size/type module, can be DDR, DDR2 or DDR3 with DDR4 near. Parts for Notebooks have traditionally been more expensive as they have to be made smaller.

lm based in the UK l did take a gander at that site but when l went through the dropdowns it was only giving me the opportunity to pick up to 4GB, it seemed to show no 8GB sticks.

weirdly tho l always thought l had 4GB ram but it seems l only have three.. but lm pretty sure l would have the UK model since l purchased and reside in the UK.

as for price, its the jump from 4 to 8 that bothers me but then the sites l looked on arent known for their techy parts.

SO-DIMM DDR-2 and DDR-3 are different sockets. They are 200 and 204 pin respectively and have a different notch location. They are not interchangeable.

Older memory is usually more expensive. If it is being made, it's made at a much lower volume than current memory modules. If it's not being made, you're buying leftover stock in the pipeline with no source for replenishing. For desirable products, this inflates the price because suppliers/distributors will add a markup each time they interchange stock (sell to one another). It boils down to supply and demand. Low supply + High demand = Higher price.

The best course of action is to look in your user manual for compatible memory modules.

lve no clue where the box is that has the manual in, but the modules currently inside note: KN.1GB0G.016 and KN.2GB07.003

which going by google note they are DDR2, but even lm questioning the tech support for packard bell.. granted lm less knowledgeable when it comes to laptop internal hardware but ld assumed DDR2/3 werent the same connectors which made his reply slightly confusing.

that said the model numbers l provided were from tech support, and do match what l have inside (there were a few extra digits on the stickers but otherwise the serial numbers matched the above).
