RAM frequency indiscrepancy

Hey guys,

I noticed something weird in my RAM. I've got two Kingston modules now, having replaced my Corsair modules that might have caused all my problems. They are two DDR3-1333 modules, supposedly running at 667MHz. But when I check using sensors, they run slightly higher than that. See the images I've included.

The thing is, the Corsair modules did exactly the same thing. 668MHz in stead of 667MHz. And MemTest+ shows them running at DDR3-1337 in stead of DDR3-1333...

My question is: is this a problem? Can it hurt? I know it seems like a very small indiscrepancy, but after having had so many BSODs, I wonder... (I've yet to find out if switching from Corsair to Kingston fixed my problems, that'll take a few days to find out).

I hope you can answer this strange riddle for me.

It's not a problem. The front side bus speed won't be exact, and the ram speed is a multiplier of the FSB. Your difference is so tiny as to be explained by the monitoring program even. I wouldn't worry about it. Your quality Ram can no doubt even be overclocked to run at higher speeds safely, so this very tiny difference is completely normal and safe. A Guy

Ah, thank you, that puts me at ease . Okay, I hope I won't get any more BSODs then.

I also noticed the voltage going a little higher than 1.5 at times, I take it the same theory applies?

Yes, small voltage changes are to be expected. You Rams specs say + or - 0.075v. All these variations are normal. Your PSU output won't be exact, but a good PSU won't be far off specs or have large variations. But things such as temperature, load, etc. will have small effects. All in all, if you run Memtest+ with no errors, and run Prime95 or OCCT with no problems, and reasonable temperatures, then the hardware should be ok. A Guy

In the BIOS, the AI Tweaker reports it's mostly running at 1.550V, with highs and lows going so far as 1.536 and 1.559V. That does seem a little high?

+ or - 0.075 would be from 1.425 to 1.575. And that's just the rated voltage. Again, you are within specs I'm sure you will get more replies as more people see your post as well.

Oh, right, I misread. I thought you said 0.0075 .
