RAM is sooo high!

no i haven't tried a system restore and i did obtain some success when i took down startup applications. My processes right now are at 67 with 717 threads (if that matters) and 1.47 gb ram used with only firefox running. I just want to mention that the games worked perfectly before and i have been considering a system restore but to get it back to when it ran perfectly would be setting it back over a year. I have too many files on here that I've devoted too much time in to just throw them away considering i don't have any external memory.

errr... A Windows system restore. assuming you have system protection turned on, does not mean wiping your drive and potentially losing your data.

System restore takes your Windows SYSTEM files back to a specific point in time. It does not affect personal data. Documents, photos, media files and so on are not touched. Worst case scenario you might have reinstall a program or two.

I see Tune Utilities Service and MBAM Service running. What antivirus do you have? MBAM Pro slowed things down on my machine too much so I ditched its real time protection.

Do you print? Do you share files? Do you share Windows Media? Check out Black Viper for services that you can safely disable or set to manual based on how you use your machine. Just write down any settings before you make a change so you can always go back to your default setting.

I agree with DBone. Black Viper's is a great resource. And 67 is way too high. I have 10 computers here and none of them, even with webcams, run above 50. Stuff like java update schedulers, divx updaters, adobe updaters, toolbars, and so on are crapware, as stated.

One interesting point though, DBone. I run MBAM real time protection on all my systems, and I can't say that I have seen any impact whatsoever on any of my systems, ther than constant notifications about petentially malicious sites when I'm downloading a torrent. MABM might be one of the lightest protection programs out there. Certainly one would probably not want to be running Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm or AVG.. these are real resource monsters.

Yea Tanyam, MBAM ran fine for me for a while, but it just seemed to slow down my machine, especially when browsing the web. I had it running along side of AIS and I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but I just use it now as an on-demand scanner.......Great program none the less!

this laptop is supposed to be a gaming computer
This is an oxymoron.

You probably mean a contradictio in terminis ;)

But that is not necesarily true... I 've seen great gaming lt's with full hd screens and the cpu and gpu power to back it up....

+1 Not necessarily true. My laptop specs - i7-2720QM, GTX 485M, 8GB, SSD, blah blah seems to handle games quite nicely. It may not be a match for my own desktop, but it certainly holds it own against plenty of other mid-range desktops.
