Solved RAM memory stick combination.

I have installed in my system the,

KINGSTON KHX6400D2K2/4G DDR2 4GB (2X2GB) PC6400 800MHZ HYPERX DUAL CHANNEL KIT CL 5-5-5-15 Voltage 1.8 - 2.0V

And i also have these ram sticks and i wonder if i can benefit from them in anyway,can i do any good combination for my system?

GEIL DDR2 Black Dragon Dual Channel (2x1GB) PC2-6400 800MHZ CL 4-4-4-12 Voltage 2.0V
Tested and working fine in 5-5-5-15 without any change in voltage

KINGSTON VALUE RAM KVR800D2N52G (2x2GB) PC2-6400 CL 5-5-5-15 Voltage 1.8V
Tested and working fine in 4-4-4-12 without any change in voltage.

I have always the motherboard bios to factory settings and for some reason is set timings to 6-6-6-18. I dont see any decrease in my the system speed so leave it that way.

Hi Panais, here is a RAM benchmark MaxxPI² - Download (MaxxMEM² - PreView)
download it and test it on each set of RAM. I suspect you will get the best score with the Kingston at 4-4-4 or the Geil if you can get them to 4-4-4.

I really wonder,is it possible to combine the GEIL or the kingston value ram with my HyperX and benefit from it?

2x2 HyperX 4GB + GEIL 1+1=2GB = 6GB in CL 5-5-5-15 Voltage 1.8?

2x2 HyperX 4GB + Vram 2+2=4GB =8GB in CL 5-5-5-15 Voltage 1.8?

Something like that. I never experiment with rams,only just little with timings so i need help with this.

I would stick with the Kingston, and just manually set the speed,timings, and voltage to its advertised spec.

Thats not saying mixing them wont work.
Its worth a try, just set it for a CAS 5 and 1.8V and test and see what you get.
Sometimes mixing and matching works out OK, other times it doesnt.


But, I wouldnt mix them TBH.
There are many other subtiming etc., and it will default to the lowest speed as well as the highest voltage.

Youll probably be better off with a matching kit.

It depends on what you do with your computer, graphics manipulation, audio converting, VM's, generally for the enthusiast the more RAM the better.

I tend to stay away from any RAM that has 'Value' listed anywhere, tends to be more problems. If your V-RAM has been running without issue then use it.

Throw in the Kingston 4x2GB cards and run memtest86+ (with all four RAM cards installed) for 7 full passes, this will take a while with 8GB RAM, best to run it overnight.
If you get any errors, you can stop the test.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

You might need to bump your NB voltage a little with 8GB RAM, less voltage is always better, so leave it where it's at unless you have errors.

I wouldn't worry about the timings being at 6-6-6-18, changing it to 5-5-5-15 won't be a noticeable performance gain.
If you still want to give it a try, after the memtest86+ at 6-6-6-18, just check the options in your BIOS 'DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD)' changing from 'Auto' to 'Manual' then set the first 4 timings to 5-5-5-15, leave the rest on auto.

I dont mind to stick only with my HyperX.

Ok,just from curiosity i will run a ram benchmark first then i will restart and set it for a CAS 5 and 1.8V and run the benchmark again to see the results.

Good. I would let the motherboard set voltages and timings and not worry about it. Use your PC and if it gives you no problems then enjoy!

Why "Tweak" the settings if it works with default Bios settings. The tweaks won't be noticeable in everyday usage.

I use the pc for gaming and HD movies.

No problems with these so far,i just have these GEIL and Value ram and i was thinking if is there any chance to benefit from them.

Panais, if you want to just use it, that is fine.
If you want to play around with it, that's fine too.

No reason not to add the other RAM, 8GB is better than 4GB

Is there any benefit from it? As i said before i use the pc for gaming and HD movies.

For HD Movies, no. Even with 4GB Full HD movies are going good. For that you need just good cpu,ram is not so important for that.

For games, yes. Games will start faster also.

I play Rage,crysis,Bioshock,now Skyrim in full AA,1080p always everything in max settings.

HD movies in 1080p.

Ok then, HyperX +Value Ram =8GB at CL 5-5-5-15 Voltage 1.8

I will run the benchmark before and after the addition.


Just changing little the subject i want to say that,this is must be the best place to be for hardware\software usage\advice get help and not only!

I finished combine and testing.

I posted some benchmarks.

In the first benchmark i have installed only the HyperX 5-5-5-15 1.8V =4GB

In the second benchmark and winsat mem i have installed HyperX with ValueRam 5-5-5-15 1.8V =8GB


Well now guys i need your advice. When is better\faster with or without the ValueRam? Or the different is not noticeable?

The Kingston Value Ram is being detected as DDR2-333(666)MHz not as DDR2-800 as the HyperX.

So it is running all 4 ram sticks at 666. So you get lower scores.

Pull out the Value Ram and just use the 2 sticks of HyperX only and it will work at 800MHz as in your first Maxx Snip.

Ok the final tests.

First only HyperX. 5-5-5-15 V1.8 =4GB

Second HyperX+ValueRam 5-5-5-15 V1.8 =8GB

And the final winsat mem with HyperX+ValueRam 5-5-5-15 V1.8

And again the same newbie question. When is better\faster with or without the ValueRam? Or the different is not noticeable? If i dont have any decrease maybe is better to stick with 8GB?

It is not a big difference on benchmarks but will be useful with some applications.

You have it so make use of it.
