I have an old ddr2 2gig chip. I think its 800speed.
If i buy a 1000 speed, mobos now days should be smart enough to auto detect and run both chips at 800 right? my mobo is maybe 2 years old. 2.7ghz amd dual core sata type board.

would the ram be more stable if i plug the 800 chip into slot 1 and the 1k into slot 2 ?
or will it most likely not matter?

anything else i should be aware of before i buy a 20 dollar chip in the mail?

Well its not POS Vista lol : )
It shouldn't matter which slot, but it could matter that they are mismatched. Anytime you mix memory, you run the risk of them not playing nice together. If you want to add more memory, your best bet is to get a matching chip, or buy a new pair.
