I am debating on upgrading to higher speed RAM. Right now I have 8 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3. I recently rebuilt my PC. Anyways I am wondering if the upgrade would be worth doing. How much performance difference is there between 1333 MHz and 1600 MHz RAM? Also I do know that Z97 mobo supports pretty much all DDR3 speeds.

Radeon R9 285 2 GB GDDR5
512 GB Crucial SSD
Intel Core i7 4790k (OCd turbo to 4.6 GHz on all cores)

some g.skill 1866MHz would be nice :)

my timings are pretty low too. 9-10-9-28. I get 2500MB/s when i run "winsat mem" in command prompt. go ahead and run that test on your PC and compare. Usually, there is no benefit in faster RAM. Other than faster initial start ups, you wouldn't notice any real world difference.

1600 MHZ RAM is 20% faster than 1333 MHZ RAM. If RAM speed was the primary factor in system performance then that is the maximum gain. But it isn't. In many cases RAM speed isn't even particularly important.

Likely the only place you will see performance gains is in specific benchmarks.

I though so. I think I will just upgrade to more RAM instead of higher speed since I like to run VMs.
