Hi

I ran sfc /scannow...

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Users\Admin>cd\
C:\>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

CBS log file added as attachment: CBS.txt

PS. I looked at system restore but I only have 2 available from today after errors found.

Thanks

My usual disclaimer: I'm not an expert at anything. :)

Sometimes you have to run sfc/ scannow 3 or more times in order for damaged or corrupt files to get fixed. (See the "Note" in Option Two, Step 4.)

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Option Three in the tutorial includes a "Tip" and a link on how to extract files from a Windows 7 installation disk. Personally, I'm computer challenged and I'd much rather run a Repair Install. If it works, it will fix your currently installed Windows 7 while preserving your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc. Other Forum members seem to enjoy manually replacing numerous files and they may disagree with me.

I've done a repair install on several computers and it's always worked. It usually takes about an hour to run. The biggest headache is reinstalling Windows Updates after doing the repair install. That used to take about 90 minutes but it could be longer now with more updates to install.

Just some things for your consideration.

Lee's advice above is best. The solution if SFC won't repair the files after repeat attempts, or they cannot be replaced (which is often more trouble than it's worth), is to Repair Install.

@ marsmimar

Thanks for the great advice. The repair install worked great.
