Solved Random BSOD, last error 0x101

Hello Everyone!

My laptop (ASUS G53JW) started to have BSOD several months ago. I THINK they started when I installed an SSD and had to reinstall windows and stuff. First, BSOD happened when I was doing light tasks like browsing or idle. I searched over the internet and found that Geforce GTX 460m had an issue with newer drivers and their adaptive performance feature. I did what they suggested and seemed to work. A few days went by and BSsOD came again. This is what I've tried:

*Prime95 for 2 hours
*Memtest for 2 hours
*Driver verifier
*Format
*Change adaptive to max performance setting according to: G53JW and GTX460M...I'm in a very difficult situation....
*Temperatures are high but so they were since I bought the laptop (also, ambient temperature where I live is high, 42ºC).
Temps on iddle are:

When playing CPU and GPU reach 85ºC.

These days I've been having crashes when playing games too, they are also random, sometimes when I start the game, sometimes after several hours of playing.

I attach the logs retrieved by the SF diag tool, except for MGADIAG, I get an error when I push the button:

I've thought about changing RAM modules or repaste GPU and CPU, but disassembling this laptop is a very tedious task and I want to be sure I'm not doing it for nothing .

I hope you can help me, and sorry for any misspell.

Welcome to 7F .
This is a tricky situation to be in as thermals causes all sorts of unexpected results, with that said all
of the bugchecks blame the nVidia driver, nvlddmkm.sys.
All but one of the bug checks are 0x101, unfortunately this bug check code doesn't contain enough
information in the minidump file be analyzed fully.

Please upload the Kernel dump file using Dropbox or Skydrive, the file is located in the Windows directory
and is usually a few hundred Megabytes in size.

Based of what I do see I suggest the following,

• :ar:Remove Avast Anti-Virus following this article - avast! Uninstall Utility | Download aswClear
• :ar:Install Microsoft Security Essentials as an alternative.

:ar:Roll back your nVidia driver to a more stable release:

Install the 314.22 WHQL only.

• Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features
  • 3D Vision Control Driver
  • 3D Vision Driver
  • Graphics Driver
  • HD Audio Driver
  • PhysX
  • nvidia Update
  (Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
• Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
• Boot normally now. Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:

• Driver Reference Table - iaStor.sys

Get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
2. It will open the "computer management" window.
3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.

I did everything you suggested except for the IRST. I couldn't get rid of it . When I try to uninstall it I get this error:

Tried to uninstall it from the device manager (checking the box 'erase driver' when clicking uninstall) but after a restart, windows installed the same IRST driver. Also tried to uninstall it from safe mode but it stays "uninstalling" forever and I have to close it using task manager.

Any insight on how to remove it?

Hi thanks for the feedback .
Unfortunately I'm unable to extract the MEMORY.zip it throws an error claiming it's corrupt .
Now as to the IRST removal, all the error says is that an unrecoverable error happened not much info
is given as to why.

I'll see if others have an idea .

One thing is confusing to me here.

It is said that iaStor.sys (Intel Rapid Storage) is used as the AHCI controller.

Also, we can see that the AHCI controller is actually the msahci.sys.

(weird partition on Disk 1 is the one that comes with factory default software for restoration. I was lazy and didn't move it to the SSD).

It cannot be controlled by two drivers at the same time. As a test, you delete iaStor.sys manually from the location c:\windows\system32\drivers\iastor.sys.

Could it be because I have an SSD and a conventional HD connected at the same time? Should I delete iastor.sys anyway?

No BSOD so far, but lets wait a few more days before getting happy xD

If it does not BSOD now, dont try to go for any fix, including the deleting of the driver file. If the problems takes place again, we have to think over it again.

Ok, I've been doing light tasks and no BSOD so far... tomorrow I'll play some games and stuff and let you know how it behaves.
