Random BSOD when putting laptop to sleep

Good day everyone,

Basically I keep getting problems with my laptop not going to sleep or hibernating. It seems to happen randomly. Sometimes it will work and other times it won't, the system will just hang then approximately 10 minutes later it will automatically shut down. When I turn it back on I get the error message : "Windows Didn't Shut Down Successfully".

My system is :

Windows 7 Home Premium 64
AMD Athlon TF-20 1.6ghz
4.0GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X1200

As far as I know I've got the latest drivers. I would also like to mention that I even get this problem when I'm running Win 7 32, so I'm basically at a lost here and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks a lot guys. :)

This one was caused by your broadcom wifi driver. I would download and install a fresh copy

Let us know if you need help

Hello,
I seem to be having the same problem. My toshiba laptop randomly freezes (black screen) and turns off when I close the lid to put it to sleep, and happens exactly how Jordan described it. It happens every maybe once a week, and sometimes things that I was writing in Notepad that I know I saved get reverted back to the version a day before.

I run a lot of things at once, so maybe this affects it. Or maybe it's the out-of-date, impossible-to-upgrade video card.

Here is the dump file on megaupload-- since I can't zip it because of "access is denied", even though I took full control of ownership and everything. Hopefully someone can open it from their computer.

Here is the zip file of reports as per the BSOD posting instructions I just read.

Edit- oh, wow that was a fast reply. I'll try to find some new drivers to download. Thanks a lot! :)

It's getting really late, so I'll only be able to look for the drivers tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you know what I download and how it goes. Is there another diagnostic/report to check my system that I should do after my drivers are uploaded correctly?

If you want you can enable driver verifier, but I don't think it is necessary at this point.

Just use your computer normally, and see what happens.

I downloaded and installed the INtel wireless drivers from the Toshiba website for my model and Windows 7 x64. Then I went to device manager and clicked on network, and clicked on my wifi adapter ( intel wifi link 5100 agn) and clicked on update driver. It downloaded something and I restarted. It seemed like everything was fine.

Then I tried the verifier tool you mentioned. I clicked standard settings, then it restarted and showed the bsod, which I think it's supposed to?. I took a picture of the blue screen and attached it along with the dump file. I'm not sure if it still has to do with the network drivers or not.

It hasn't done the previously reported crash when going to sleep, but it did that only every few days anyway.

Thanks so much.

This one is pretty straight forward... Memory Corruption,, Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 passes.

SPTD.sys was noted as well.. Try removing any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads
