Random BSOD - Windows 7 - newly purchased refurbished laptop

Should I just cut my losses and send in for a replacement?

On Newegg's site on the listing for this computer there are some customer reviews. Several people were very pleased with their refurbished machine. Then there's the one guy who got a dud that had a lot of shutdowns, BSODs. So he sent it back.

I bet I got his.

Sorry to say it sounds like you have a bad machine with one problem after another! It may be something simple like the GPU needs re-balling or similiar, but why should you pay to have that done? If you still have warranty on it, return it. I am speaking from experience here as I refurbish computers/laptops for a living. I would also ask myself if the people you are purchasing from are authorised Microsoft refurbishers? Being a part of this prgram myself I can tell you that if they are not & you get a laptop/computer without recovery software or the original manufacturer hard disk image then the os loaded on to the machine would be seen as a pirated copy by MS. I called Newegg today and got an RMA to get a replacement. I don't know if Newegg does the refurbishing or not but it's go a sticker on it saying it's a certified refurbished. I've already updated everything via MS and I know it's not pirated.

While it didn't come with any disks there's a 15GB partition on the HDD that contains all the recovery software. One of the things I did was do a repair install to see if that would work (it didn't).

The last straw, though, for me was when I partitioned the HDD to set up a dual install of Linux Mint. Well, Mint keeps freezing up and the keyboard/touchpad, etc, are completely non-responsive.

So, this tells me the problem is bigger than I can handle. I'm sending it back and getting a new one.

Now I wait impatiently for my new machine...

OK that's allright then. It's a pain in the backside when you have to sit around waiting for a replacement but sometimes it's it's the only course of action. Glad you can get a replacement anyway & hopefully all will be well. If the machine has a certified refurbished MS sticker on then all is well. Hope it all goes OK for you
