Random Freezing / Crashing

Hey guys, I have a Compaq Presario SR1300NX that I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit on, and its original OS was XP. I formatted my hard drive in the Windows 7 installation so I guess that most everything that was previously on it is gone. Whenever I try to use it the screen will freeze at what seems like any random time, forcing me to restart. I've tried using a Hotfix as well as looking at the Event Log to solve this problem but nothing seems to work. I'm assuming that this is happening because of a compatability error due to it originally being a XP, which is weird because it works fantastically aside from this. I would heavily appreciate it if I can get some help on fixing this problem.

I think that you may be out of luck on this one. If you are only running 256MB of memory, that dog just won't hunt with Win7. Not to mention the old hardware which probably requires proprietary drivers.

You could downgrade the OS to XP Pro and everything should work just fine, however, if you wish to use Win 7 Ultimate, you are going to need at least 1GB of RAM and a DX9 capable graphics card. Other requirements can be found here: Windows 7 system requirements - Microsoft Windows
