Random Hard Freezes - No BSOD, No Error Logs / Memory Dumps Created

AFor some backstory: I built this computer in late Feb of 2015. Over the last 5/7 months (two of which - July and August - I wasn't around to use it) and have had several issues with it since:

  • Early March - Random BSOD relation to Shadowcopy files (reinstalled OS, issue ceisted)

  • Early September - Several random BSOD due to GPU drivers (uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers in Safe Mode - doing so in regular boot mode caused a BSOD - fixed this)

  • Late September - Single, random BSOD again. However, the computer could not get past the Windows Repair Environment (reinstalled the OS, issue ceisted)

  • Now - random freezing every few days to as often as once every few hours. This is my current issue.
These freezes will occur suddenly and with no warning. One second I'll be watching a video, browsing, or playing a game then the next I'll be stuck. Any audio will loop constantly and the screen will be stuck at the last "frame". I've left it for as long as 30 minutes and it will not crash or bluescreen. The only option is to simply hold the Power button.
The event viewer will not have any error or warnings at the time of the freeze but will only have the error regarding the computer shutdown being forced at the time I hold the Power button.

I'm starting to think this issue is far beyond that of a software issue. This rig has had problems on both Windows 7 and 10. I've done some testing with Memory Diagnostics and stress testing the CPU and GPU. However, I do not mind starting to troubleshoot "from the beginning" to find out why this rig has had a plethora of issues.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,
Have you used real temp to see what the temps are for the cpu ?
Are you using the stock cooler for it ? it had some pretty bad reviews on Newegg
Download Real Temp 3.70 | techPowerUp
What brand memory ?

I am using the stock fan for the CPU.

The memory brand is the G.Skill Ripjaw 2x4GB.

Since RealTemps is a program for Intel CPUs, I used HWMonitor to find temperatures of my PC. I attachted the logs for the idle temps and temps during a 3D Mark simulation. Nothing appeared out of order at first glance.

What OS are you using now? It would also be helpful to know what issues happened on which OS. As you've obviously reinstalled an OS numerous times then there will be no dump files left over to analyse which is a shame.

I am currently using Windows 10 64-bit. I had been using Windows 7 64-bit up until September when I upgraded.

The issue with the GPU drivers and the random freezes have been with Windows 10, while the other two issues were on Windows 7.

There aren't any more memory dumps on my PC because, as you said, I reinstalled the OS several times.

If the version of 10 you have installed now is the upgraded version from 7 I'd recommend backing up your files and performing a clean install of 10. It will auto activate as you've already installed it from a prior qualifying OS and should iron out any problems that were carried over. If you need any help with this just say and I'll link you with all the relevant tutorials. A clean install of 10 (following the upgrade) has been known to fix these types of issues on numerous occassions so may well be worth doing.

If you're sticking with 10 I'd recommend checking out our sister site Windows 10 Forums

My previous reinstall of the OS was done via installing Windows 7 the upgrading to Windows 10. I will reinstall gain but this time solely into Windows 10. If there is an issue following the reinstall, I'll post on ten forums. Otherwise, I'll mark the thread Solved. Thanks!

EDIT -- Reinstalling did not get rid of the issue.
