While you're :under the hood: look for any indications of burn marks or swollen capacitors on the board.

Absolutely plus any "dry joints" just try the slot fittings or anything that is soldered to the board - not roughly and if it moves just a fraction then you will have a joint that is not making proper contact and while cool / cold it works ok but the heat expansion provides just that tiny bit enough of a gap to lose contact and them on cooling-off - contact is back again.

If as suggested you have overtightened the fixings for the CPU then - same thing as for dry joints is going to happen

dldeadbolt please remember that just replacing your thermo paste is not good enough.
Doing it incorrectly is just as bad. The damage could already be done. Checking your cpu and motherboard pins for discoloration is a clue. We have no way of knowing things like this. We have to use your eyes, ears, and noise along with your posts to help you.
Did you replace the thermo paste again as per the Tutorial I have posted?

Did you installed the cooler again as per instructions for that cooler and cpu?
Have you inspected the cpu and motherboard for anything that looks discolored or odd?
Please let us know what you have done with the suggestions you have been given and what the results were. If you decide not to do a suggestion please let us know also. It will help us help you.

Still think something is wrong with that CPU it is running at almost max TDP and is over voltage limit too according to this ARK | Intel® Core

I agree ICit2lol the volts are to high or are being reported to high by previous damage.
vcore core in post # 11 is 1.464 volts.
I would suggest running bios at default withour XMP. Sometimes XMP will drive the vcore to high.

Hey guys

Sorry for not updating.

While I was supposed to have taken it apart, a few things came between me and that, namely my birthday this weekend and the parts I was going to use had been smashed by a rather large and heavy warming tray falling on it sometime in the past 3yrs whilst in storage >.<

The temps have stayed up there, but it hasnt crashed once even though it has been on since Friday evening till now.

The comp has been booked in to get checked out tomorrow with a local techie to check everything for me.

I'll keep you updated as to how it goes, but it might take a week or so.
