Randomly occuring BSODs, probably caused by drivers

Look up the USB drivers for your motherboard.

It's embarassing but it seems the ASUS website does not have any usb drivers available for my card: P7P55D.

Edit: Drivers have been successfully installed. I'll get back to you if I get another crash.

One curious thing to note is that I might NOT have actually had the appropriate USB drivers. There is a "new" controller in the device manager now that I did not have before.

Alas the driver update did not prevent bluescreens. I just got another one today:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Note that the attached dump data contains all crashes in the history of this machine, not just the latest one.

Yet another bluescreen. Same message as the one above. I did not attach another analysis dump. Tell me if you want me to.

It seems your installation is counterfeit.

You are running an Acer Product ID (PID) on an ASUS board.
This makes your installation counterfeit.
Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless as it is not known what has been modified to your system.
A counterfeit installation contains heavily modified code which causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason, analyzing counterfeit systems is unreliable and most analysts won't try it.

I recommend to install a genuine copy of Windows.
If, after you have installed a genuine copy of Windows, you still get BSOD's we'll be happy to assist you.

Ok.

Question: I have access to a legit download (free) of windows through my university. Is software installed on one harddrive transferable to another installation of windows? I have some software which requires a lot of work to install (heavily plugin-dependent) and I'm thinking of simply getting a new harddrive, installing windows on it and then copying the software over from my old drive.

Is this possible to do or will stuff just plain break if I try it?

You can copy/paste the files you need, but there are register stuff that are required too which is harder to 'copy/paste' as in most cases you don't know which register key you need and 1 missing key could break the software. It could be a great risk, most of the times it is faster to just install it again instead of copy/paste it.
