Read only attribute for folders in properties

I recently tried to attach some photos to an email I was sending, only to discover that when I went through the browse option there was apparently nothing in the folder (which there was when I checked the folder in question)
Having dug around I discovered that every folder appears to have read only set in attributes.
I tried to remove this but all to no avail. Having clicked on apply, then closed the file down, I have reopened it to find read only is still there.
so- is this read only the reason I cannot send attachments?
if so- how do I remove it?

Thanks seavixen. What I dont understand is how they were modified. I certainly havent, and lack the knowledge how. I'm wondering if an update haqs done it as that is the only thing I have downloaded this week

tried using the cmd function, but having had several goes I get the line:
Parameter format not correct -

Been doing a bit of digging on here. The read only box is coloured blue, rather than ticked. Have tried Microsofts recommendation (thanks seavixen :) ) but this is making no difference

When you run a command you need to make sure you are including any spaces in it.

Also, you may need to use it with elevated privileges i.e. as an administrator.

When you invoke the cmd application, right-click cmd under Programs and choose Run as Administrator then click Yes at the UAC prompt.

well, I have tried this several times and all to no avail. Seavixen, thanks for your help but I am afraid you are wrong. The solution simply does not work. Looking at the microsoft forums, a lot of other people have the same issue. anyone else have a suggestion?

Folders have no readonly attribute. The checkbox in properties is always filled out with folders.
