ReadyNAS Duo - ? compatibility ?

I have a ReadyNAS Duo network storage on which I backed up my essential files and music.
I have just updated my PC from Vista to Windows7.
I now find that I cannot use the FrontView Backup facility built into the ReadyNAS.
On any backup job - using ''Test Connection'' I get "Error connecting to...''.
If I click on ''Go'' button, then it appears to start and finish, but no files are backed up - from log -

All passwords and users are set OK.
I can access the ReadyNAS from the PC and can copy files to it 'manually' so there is a connection. Also it worked fine with Vista.
Can anyone please assist in resolving this.

Browse to see if a firmware upgrade is needed as the NAS doesn't seem to have issue with Windows 7, only the Backup facility - perhaps there is a newer version of the backup facility that comes with the firmware upgrade?

There may also be an option inside the NAS OS to check for any upgrades.

Yes that is my model, and thanks but I have upgraded to the latest firmware.
Netgear have tried to assist but are struggling - mind so are 8 other people on their forum.

Thought I would post here to see if anyone has resolved the problem from W7 aspect.

I have just come off the phone to Netgear's "Gearhead" - paid 'higher level' technical support.
They have not been able to solve the problem - in fact they did not try any more things than the standard Netgear help desk.

Their agent (Armond) admitted that there was a compatibility issue between Frontview and Windows7. He would not put it in writing though - not surprised really!
He suggested three alternatives -
1) I get another Windows7 PC and see if it worked on that! But we all know it works on some but not others - the issue is why.
or
2) That I should revert to Vista ! Thats progress for you.
or
3) That I sould do a clean install - despite the fact that this has not worked since I did a clean install less than 2 month ago!

So if you have Windows 7 and are thinking of buying a ReadyNAS - I would thoroughly suggest you contact Netgear and ask them to put in writing that it will work with your machine before you spend your money.

Now unless anyone else can assist with a solution to this problem - I think it will be destined to be an expensive door stop!

So, are you going to revert to an external application to do the backups? What were you planning on using?

The thing is one reason for choosing the ReadyNAS was that it had its own backup software that did not rely on a user being logged in to run.

I don't know of any other NAS which can do this.

Certainly not aware of a windows program that will run whilst not being logged on.

So - basically in a fix.

No, not realy - The ReadyNAS Frontview has a backup facility which backs up from the PC to the readyNAS. You specify which folders you wish to back up, and the user id and password for access to the files. It can be scheduled to run at specific times of the day/week/month.
You can specify several backup jobs to run at different (or same) times, and backup different folders to different areas of the RedayNAS.
eg one schedule was to backup user documents every day; and another was to back up MPS3 files weekly, etc.
It ran perfectly well under Vista, but not under Windows7.

Mmm....OK. I wonder if there is some backup service that would run from the PC (without the user being logged in) that would backup PC ---> NAS?

Worth a look. Perhaps some of our backup guru's could comment on this?
