Realtek microphone problem

So, I have a realtek internal microphone, long story short, 2 days ago it worked, now it doesn't.
I tried to make a call from my computer and the other individual couldn't hear me, so I opened my sound recording software to test my mic and it didn't work.

I checked my settings and they all make it seem like my mic is working.

I even downloaded the newest Realtek driver. Nothing has worked. Someone please help me.

Hi, there's a possibility it's been muted, or that you have a setting in your Realtek audio controls to ignore the jack or port the microphone is connected to if certain other cables are plugged in.

There should be a Realtek HD Audio applet in your control panel...

I checked the Realtek HD Audio applet, it isn't muted, and nothing is plugged in at all. Nor has anything been plugged in.
Any other help?

I have no idea what this means or how to fix it.
If this is the problem can you explain how I go about fixing it?

Go to: Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > "Recording" tab > set the right device as your Default Device > Check the volume level beside it to see if it goes up and down with your voice (i.e if it works).

There can only be one default device.

He meant exiting a different program like Skype or GTalk that may be using the microphone.

This was the first thing I tried.
The mic is set as the default, and the level beside it has been stuck on two green lines. It doesnt go up with my voice or any other noise.
But there is a green check on the mic as if to say its working, when it obviously isnt.

I did, and sometimes exiting the program isn't enough, due to poor coding, or a program actually remaining active in the background, the hardware it has taken control of remains assigned to it...
