I'm not a noob!
I sed i have installed wireless driver and i want to use my computer (not the router) as Access Point with is own settings, and i'm using it right now....

but...

i can't change security protocol (the part in the window is gray) and if i want to change the channel i have to go in device properties in "device manager" for do it!

i'm referring to realtek RTL8187 wireless lan utility ver. 700.1604.108.2010, in the "virtual wifi" tab, config panel.

Someone know solutions? I have Asrock x38 Turbotwins-wifi with wifi module that i think is RTL8187L ( is RTL8187 series, i have doubts on "L") but i'm not sure and the only way (after all) is to open my pc and read it -_-, but i think that realtek software is smart enough to recognize hardware so....

I can relate to the frustration of member: Mustang. I was working just find with my XP on my Gateway laptop when I "okayed" a MICROSOFT security patch update and then it CRASHED. In fact, we lost 3 computers in the period of less than 24 hrs to this (just goes to show we can't even trust MICROSOFT).

Anyway, my computer guy decided to update my OS to Windows 7, which I wish he'd asked first but, whatever. Now I can't access my Realtek RTL8187_wireless internal Internet Adapter. He told me he couldn't get the driver but it didn't "register" in my head what that meant until I got home.

I've too hunted high and low for an updated driver, and to date (nearly March now) still no driver that I can find. I too had to use an external pcmcia adapter my kiddo's had in their laptops and am awaiting the arrival of my own in the mail.

I had tried to use my desktop Linksys wireless adapter, but turns out, it too couldn't get a Windows 7 driver for it (but Linksys rep reassured me they could see me a whole new adapter for $70 - gee thanks).

I guess MS is never going to work with other companies so we don't have these driver problems EVERY TIME Microsoft decides to change OS's. No wonder people have changed to alternative OS's.

If anyone reads this and is aware of an updated driver for the Realtek RTL8187_wireless internal Internet adapter PLEASE email me at: [email protected] I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

There already is a driver for the RTL8187

I've been using my Realtek adapter for months now. What I did was buy the zonet wireless adapter from newegg which worked immediately upon first plug-in and Windows 7 automatically found the driver for the Realtek built-in card. Then I just put the Zonet away in case I needed it in the future. I probably wouldn't have even have had to do that if I could've gotten my computer close enough to a router/switch/hub so that I could plug my motherboard directly into it (I had windows 7 drivers for the motherboard's built-in ethernet).

Newegg.com - Zonet ZEW2500P IEEE 802.11b/g MINI USB / USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter Up to 54Mbps Wireless Data Rates 64/128-Bit WEP, WPA - Wireless Adapters

I don't know if it would work or not, but you could download the driver from the Asus website to see if your computer will take it. Search for motherboards, socket 775, P5B Deluxe WiFi. Choose Windows 7 and download the wireless card driver.

See my previous posts on this thread. I am currently using the RTL8187L driver on my Win 7 64bit. Works great. Did not use the AP portion. Just the driver is all you need, let windows do the rest. Download from RealTek direct website.

You can get the RTL8187L driver from the Realtek website... be sure to look for the RTL8187L driver. Although, after I downloaded and installed it, I still couldn't get the wireless connection to work until I went through the "Troubleshoot problems" process (Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center) and selected "Network Adapter" for the trouble shoot. The process found some sort of problem and reset some driver settings and then everything worked. Only problem I have now is that the fix from the trouble shoot process is sometimes lost during a shut down and reboot, and I have to go through the trouble shoot process again.
