Read my and others prior Posts.

At first I thought I had resolved the issue with an offending Realtek On-Board NIC Controller by disabling and then reinstalling it after reboot.

When I did this, Bingo No more Red Spiking, or so I thought.

Next morning I fired up my machine and went to play some clean clear sounding audio and much to my surprise this nasty snap, crackle, pop was back. Boy was I P--sed-Off.

I then started to look at Program Applications. I went back and read the full thread and all related posts again. Sure enough someone else had/was using the same Overclocking Application (Easy-Tune) as me and had claimed victory over this monster problem. I just must have missed his Post on this.

I disabled the "Easy-Tune" Application, no more Noise and distortion and still working that way.

Many including myself have tried many different NIC's and got little or no relief. Some claimed that they did and some claimed releif from Driver Roll-Back.

Sounds like you are on the Right Track now. This is definitely a Windows 7 Issue. I think tied somehow to how resources are managed with the CPU Calls and/or memory management and/or IRQ assignment. Some one more experienced than I can take a stab at that.

This is one of the nastiest and most difficult PC problems I have ever encountered. I build and configure my own machines and can typically resolve and understand the cause for any hardware software problems fairly quickly. Not this time!

The IRQ's are auto assigned in 7 - you can try to make 7 switch by disabling the serial and com ports to free up resources. IRQ's are assigned by ACPI and the OS, if I remember correctly.

@AaronDude - you can virtualise Ubuntu. Boot into 7 and set up VirtualBox. The only caveat is hardware resources. You need at least 1GB for Ubuntu in a VM, and a solid CPU - what are your CPU and RAM details?

I have been experiencing this problem for a few months now, and I just resolved this issue. I saw that one use had updated their BIOS and it solved their issue, so I did the same and it worked.

For others with the same problem I am on 64 bit Windows 7 (issue occured in 32 bit as well) and I am using an Asus F50SV. I was on the 203 BIOS and upgraded to the 205. If you are using a F50SL you are in luck, actually, as the latest BIOS is listed as the BIOS for fixing this issue.

I have 8 gigs of ddr2 ram and a core quad 2.5 ghz.

I don't understand though, wouldn't I have to be running ubuntu separate if I want it to run properly? See, the reason I want to run it is just so I can avoid those nasty DPC latency spikes that obviously seem to be W7 problem. Otherwise I'd be doing it for nothing. That's the reason why and really the only reason why I want to run it. I decided I'm not going to use this computer to play home made RPGs as I originally intended and just use it for lite normal use such as web surfing and listening to music. That's why I want linux, I just want a computer that works even if that means sacrificing all the good windows software.

Now, I don't know how to install it really but I'm asking that on another board and browsing tutorials.

Get VirtualBox and the .iso. Then mount it, and run it from within Windows. Easy, no messy installs, and you have enough grunt.

Here is how it somehow worked for me

I replaced MB's battery to try to solve another issue and i after this the popping and crackling was gone.

Well I've been doing a lot of stuff trying to figure this out and have decided that Acer isn't worth a darn when it comes to troubleshooting. Anyway, what I did was disable the Firewall and Defender services as one member suggested. That helped a little bit but the problem seems to be the acer installed Artheros wireless adapter. If I disable that and reboot it is fine. It stays generally in the green but will go in the yellow and short reds for a while if I launch a program or close one and rarely in the high red. The spikes seem to go down if I launch winamp as well. Using the DPC latency checker on my laptop it stays consitant at about 1000. On my windows 7 desktop with the problem it fluctuates. Should it be staying consistant or is some fluctuation ok? The problem is I have to disable and reboot if I want to do anything besides go on the internet.

nevermind, It's back to doing it again even with the adapter disabled and multiple restarts. Windows 7 just sucks.

I've been having this problem for some time now (since vista). I've used the same computer the whole time (Realtek on-board audio). I didn't have crackling problems with XP at all. Period.

When I have Aero enabled Stuttering goes away only if I have music or something playing while scrolling down/up a web page on the internet.

When I have Aero off, it does it everywhere for no apparent reason. Movies, iTunes, Web-pages. Constantly.

I am experiencing this problem also. My variation is that it works fine most of the time and occasionally appears to just freeze for a split second. I am running Windows Server 2003 R2 x64, so the problem isn't limited to Windows 7.

I ran the DPC Latency checker tool suggested in this thread. With Easy Tune 6 running, I saw a distinct spiking pattern of red-green-red-green. The greens were around 35-40us and the reds were up just over 4000us. With Easy Tune 6 stopped, all of the bars were in the green. I think that ET6 makes the problem worse, but isn't the cause of the problem. I do get the occasional pop with ET6 stopped.

Running World of Warcraft helps to induce pops. Any time I have WoW open in a heavy area like Dalaran, DPC latency will randomly spike up into the yellow around 800-900us. Those spikes can be made more lengthy by moving around and rotating the camera although they generally don't go into the red. I have also noticed that when the audio pops, Direct 3D rendering seems to jitter a bit also.

I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed also, although I don't use it very much. I rebooted to Ubuntu last night and didn't notice any pops over about 20 minutes of playing music while running WoW (via wine).

It's amazing that Acer would be so clueless about this. It appears there is no solution for now until the company responsible (whoever that might be) decides to fix it. It would sure be nice if they stepped forward and explained the problem so that we could stop pulling our hair out trying to resolve it. For now, the only fix seems to be to reboot. I'm thinking a reboot script in task scheduler to run each morning at the same time. (a command such as "shutdown -r -f -t 10" in a bat file).

I have the same issue with the sound. Whenever i type or surf on the internet with my wireless keyboard/mouse it starts to make those sounds. If i dont use it, im perfectly fine. My keyboard set is 6 yrs old without window 7 driver. Would switching the keyboard/mouse with window 7 compatable eliminate the sounds? Thanks!.

FYI everybody, Your BIOS handles IRQ assignments during POST, they get reassigned by the drivers during bootup that are then used by Windows 7, Disabling PNP-OS support will prevent the drivers from reassigning the IRQ.

Well after using my laptop for 8h the spikes on DPC latency checker started going all red about 10000us and sound started to crackling then I turned the Utorrent out and the CPU went to 1000-2000us.
And the sound was normal again, someone has written about it some pages ago.

Wow, I've tried several live cd distributions of linux and none of them work that well. I'm afraid that if I actually install them they will have the same bugs and incompatibilities. I guess I'm stuck with windows 7

I have read every post on this thread and tried everything. I have the latest driver and also have the latest realtek gigabit ethernet nic and i still have the problem. :/

And a possible hardware fix for the other laptops. Even though this fix is specifically for the Dell. The fix is using electrical tape on the metal housing of the audio jacks.

This started happening to me when i installed a program called pc matic, it updated my audio driver and i get the same issues as you do but propberly worser as it makes a loud sdcreaming noise when it gets past half way (half way to maximum sound)

I simply rolled back my driver and it worked fine

For me this doesn't seem to be a windows 7 problem. I installed linux mint and it does the same thing with that after awhile. Also disabling graphics cards and wireless adapters doesn't effect it, it will still do it after awhile. The intel graphics actually works better though for some reason.

I need to get a lawyer or something so Acer will send me a working computer, or I could just throw it out. I'd hate to get rid of something I spent so much on. It probably would be better for my mental health though if I just smashed the dang thing. Acer and their runarounds and their joke of a repair center.

I complained on reseller ratings and the store I bought it from basically told me I'm just SOL again. I'm beginning to think a lot of the positive ratings on that site are fabricated by the stores. There's big discussion about that on the boards there.

I was browsing this topic and many others for a solution to this problem, Nothing aforementioned solutions have fixed this problem. I was looking through my sound properties and came across an "Exclusive mode" option for the sound device, and since disabling it (about 6 hours ago) i have yet to hear cracking, popping or static. To find this option, Right click on your Speaker icon in your taskbar, go to Playback devices, Click on your speakers, and click Properties. Under the advanced tab there should be a check box stating "Allow Applications to take exclusive control of this device" uncheck that and try to re-produce your cracking/cackling/popping sounds.
