I'm not sure if it's been posted in the previous pages, but I've found a solution to the static noises that happen along with other sounds. I found it elsewhere on the internet (sadly I closed it so I cannot reference), and I thought I'd post here to hopefully help a few frustrated people. The same static thing happened for me in Windows XP, it was just so long ago that I forgot to bookmark the fix that worked for me.

I was getting the random "static" sound on speakers and headphones that seemed to be caused by CPU use. The sound was similar to if you were messing with headphone cord while listening to an MP3 player. This occurred when I did anything on my PC. Games, music; I could turn my speakers or headphones up and just scroll through a webpage and I'd get a static-ey chatter. Annoying, and seemingly loosely based on how much the processor was thinking about something. Seriously, even moving my mouse across the screen caused a tiny bit of hum.

Solution! In Windows 7, go to Control Panel-> Hardware and Sound, and open the Sound setting. Double-click on Speakers (that's what it was for me; could be different for different setups?), select the Levels tab, and find the PC Beep slider. Put this to 0 or mute it. Once I did that, all of my static sounds were gone!

Not sure if this will work for all. Obviously we have all different builds, manufacturers, and driver versions. I have an ASUS P6T and am running Windows 7 64. Like I said above, I had the same issue in Windows XP, and was so I knew there was SOMETHING that might work...just didn't know where to look. I don't know if this issue is caused by loose wires in my case or something, but when I did it in XP, I never had an issue again (until recently upgrading to 7). I have had no need for the "system beep" sound that I know of. I know if I'm pressing a key for 30 seconds, I guess? Someone may be able to expound upon how I must've messed up connecting a wire or how muting this might be bad or how maybe my case's system beep is dead/dying, but this fix got rid of my static and that's all I want.

Hopefully this'll help some of you. Just thought I'd put this out there. This thread seemed to be a nice repository of a handful of solutions. Someone should make a sticky..

Have you all tried updating the driver to you network adapter? That's what worked for me

I just updated my driver to Realtek's latest version and so far it's taken away the crackling/popping noises.

Simple solution that worked for me, simply get a small sticky back heatsink and stick it on your realtek audio chip on the motherboard, it will sheild it from interference from other components, this is why some motherboard manufacturers build thier onboard audio as a riser card instead of soldered direct to the motherboard to avoid interference.

It's not interference that we're complaining about. The crackling is caused by latency issues. AFAIK you can't shield from them. The sound stutters because other processes are getting priority.

Wonder if someone can help !

Im runing a ACER 5740 Laptop with Windows 7 Home x64.

Has been fine for the last year or so but over the last week it started crackling throughout certain CD playback.
My existing itunes music is fine and certain CD's play fine. The speakers are fien (at the moment!) with DVD playback.

Its driving me mad as i can't even import the CD's into iTunes.

I have tried updating the driver for the soundcard, playing the CD through media player andits still the same.

The crackle is quite loud - constant and sounds like a broken record!

I got so fed up with it yesterday that taking into account it had been fine untill last week, re loaded Windows7 from the ACER system restore software.

If You have Stereomix Set as your Default Input Device Try Mute-ing it while playing your music and see if this helps.

I just found stereo mix and disabled it entirely, no luck.

I know others say there is a out put called "beep" listed somewhere but i can't seem to find this level control.

Any ideas?

I found that my latency was related to the Optical Drive. So as long as I keep a disc in the drive, latency is fine. Odd huh?

:sarc: Unbelivable the same problem and patch. But why de optical drive give latency? Can someone help me?

Finally! Found the solution.

If you have a scratch P8Z68 Deluxe and the sound (audio glitches) as if the headphone plug muoveste the problem may be the controller of the 2-port SATA Marvell PCIe 9128. Just turn off the service Marvell's Storage Management Service, which is rifermineto the file C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Marvell \ storage \ svc \ mvraidsvc.exe. This service is responsible for the high latencies and thus delays the audio system. I believe that this occurs only when a device stakes in 2 ports on this controller, the BD player in my case.

I hope I can be of help to someone it took me 3 days to get there.

Ok so after a week of reading forums and trying everything that you guys have all tried I found the solution.

I turned OFF my Real-Time virus checker and the static / popping / and lag while playing games, listening to music ect, went away.

Enjoy having your computer back ^^

Oh and turn off your firewall as well

malivise - maybe you missed my post in this thread earlier. You just need to set the scanner to not scan itself. Turning off real time scanning might not be such a good idea from a malware perspective.

For example, if you are running Microsoft Security essentials or Forefront, try this:

1. Open Microsoft Security Essential or Forefront.
2. Click the Settings tab.
3. Click Excluded files and Locations
4. Click Add.
5. Select either of the following paths, depending on the scanner you are using:
c:\Program files\Microsoft security essentials\MsMpEng.exe
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront\Forefront System\Client\AntiMalware\MsMpEng.exe
6. Click Ok.
7. Click Save changes.
8. Close the scanner program, and then restart the computer.
You might also try excluding other network intensive programs like iTunes.exe or iTuneHelper.exe.

Hello All

After reading this whole thread I strongly suspect that this is a W7 64 bit problem and has little to do with Realtek but I am prepared to be proved wrong. I have these audio issues only when using a USB DAC and that is also variable. I have two of these - a Nuforce uDAC2 and the HRT Music Streamer II.

I first noticed the problem when I bought the uDAC and found that if I left the uDAC unconnected until after W7 had loaded my desktop etc I could reconnect the uDAC and the constant ticking static noise I got was reduced to audio blips and the odd crackle (via Winamp). This was still annoying but the HRT was totally unlistenable! Both work perfectly on my work laptop running XP! I've tried many solutions including using a powered hub but none have made any difference.

Now to put things into perspective, I am running my USB DACs in a direct stream mode meaning that I have disabled my onboard sound card (a Realtek HD coincidentally) and running directly from USB. Now I have found a solution for my uDAC which now works exceptionally well (but alas the HRT does not). When I was using Winamp I downloaded and installed the WASAPI (Maiko) plug in and while it gave good sound for my uDAC the blips etc were there and I wasn't happy. In frustration I followed a lead and downloaded J. River Media Centre. For some reason it would not let me play in either ASIO, WASAPI or WASAPI or WASAPI Event style. This left only one option - kernel streaming. It works amazingly with J River through my uDAC and the audio quality is outstanding running through my Fiio E9 driving Sennheiser HD580s. What I can't understand is how a media player could do this. It even softened the effect on the HRT (still unlistenable though) and the only thing I can think of is that kernel streaming is the partial answer but I don't understand why. I want to be able to use my HRT (a great DAC) but I can't find a solution.

I've researched this for the last 6 months and the common denominator appears to be W7 64bit with an Intel chip. A friend of mine runs W7x64 but he has an AMD chip and my DACs play perfectly on his system. So maybe Realtek might not be to blame. I'm not that au fait with computer technology but if I disable my soundcard via the BIOS surely I've taken Realtek out of the equation or have I? As an aside I also have the Nvidia HD that has been mentioned earlier.

Finally, this is an MS form - is someone from this multi billion company monitoring this site? This is a serious issue for all of us who want quality sound from our PC/Laptop.

Found a fix that works for me.

ASROCK Gen 3 Extreme 4 board, I5 K.

I found this thread that recommended using the older Vista 217 drivers. This worked a charm

I think its definitely a driver issue. A Linux live CD has perfect quality, as did windows 7 until i ran all the drivers for the mobo. Maybe not specifically a realtek issue but a conflict with something else.

I've been following this board for about 3 months and I simply gave up and purchased a Asus Xonar DS (PCI). It was $50 with shipping from Amazon. Wow! What a difference! Even my games are running smoother. I'm wondering if the RealTek chip uses more processor. I've never been happy with RealTek and I think Creative is overpriced.

ARGH - now I'm getting it with this card. May be directly related to when my NVIDIA GTX 460 gets too taxed. The Xonar produces more of a echo effect then the popping, but there are hints of popping.

i have a similar problem...

the audio manager of Realtek was always popping out specially when I was playing some movies or music from WMA or VLC and even in playing (crossfire)...

I notice this problem from Windows7 either 32-bit or 64-bit...
hardware stuffs has no trouble or any problem but this realtek popping out is a serious menace...
i am running windowsXP SP3 x86 for a year with the same mobo and with a realtek manager but there's no similar popping manager every time you played a movie or games... in windows7 it keeps on saying "you just plugged in" or "just plugged out"...

i tried to disable the Audio Manager to pops out but the processes still running on the back that's why it consumes too much work for the CPU which hangs some of my games...

at first i tried to run the default sound driver of the Windows7 and it works fine... but this default driver is not supporting the 5.1 speakers... only STEREO.... so i used the 2.57version of realtek to support 5.1 creative speakers then the problem arise... i remove this driver and return to default W7 sound driver and it is fine but again, it doesn't support the 5.1 speaker... again I use the 2.27driver but to no avail, same problem is coming...

i don't know what the heck is happening inside windows7... my board is working fine in windowsXP so id rather format again and thrash the windows7.... this is not about the realtek...

Hi All.

So.

I've been following this thread for ages trolling for a solution to the exact problem most people on this board are describing.

so, thanks to you guys on here I used the DPS latency checker and found out that it was my "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" that made all the problems for me.

The solution to this was sort of weird, however I ended up with a clean sound.

First I tried installing the newest driver from realtek's own homepage and the DPS went insane. So I went to the "Device Manager > Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller(PROPERTIES) > and Rolled back the driver to my old one and it somehow made all the crackles and noises disappear.

So, if this is of any use to anyone I wish you all the best.

Might not be the exact way to fix this issue, but might bring some attention to the "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" for anyone who's still struggling!

So, apparently it came back today, but not as violently as before. Still it seems to be something to do with my "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller". So, troubleshooting some more..

Having the same problem on my Sony VAIO CA. I tried absolutely everything under the sun. Nothing worked. I even went to the Sony Store and brought my headphones with me. Every single one of their computers, even the $2000+ ones, had the same crackling/popping sound problem. Pathetic.

After trying probably over 30 different "fixes" and having nothing work, I finally decided to sell the computer and buy a Mac instead. However, I still have a Toshiba Satellite A660 with an Intel Core i5, Windows 7 64-bit and RealTek audio, yet the problem does not occur on the Toshiba and never has. I don't understand any of this, but it's making me disappointed in PCs in general. This thread was started 2 years ago and still there's no solution for many people. It's appalling...
