I got a brand new computer. Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P. Operating system is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
Brought it home, it installed a .net update and restarted and since then, I've had the infamous RealTek pop-up problem. Keeps telling me something is plugged in then unplugged in the front jack. Repeatedly. And nothing seemed to stop it. So after much troubleshooting and even uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling and even unplugging the front jack all together, I finally gave up an disabled it in the realtek manager so the bubble popups would stop happening. I was much pleased by this as perhaps I could get sound now. I was so wrong.
I plug my speakers into the rear jack and they do nothing but produce noise and static. Thinking maybe the disabling had something to do with it, I re-enabled the front jack but still the same problem. I even told it that the front and rear were separate and to not disable the rear when the front is plugged in (since it seems to want to tell me something is there when it's not). Something I did notice is the fact that when I disabled the front jacks, in the realtek manager, both the audio and mic jacks are highlighted, instead of greyed out like the rear jacks that don't have anything plugged into them. No idea why, but at this point, whatever. lol.
So I'm at a loss here. I have no idea why it's doing what it's doing (other than realtek is obviously not so great). I found other topics on the pop-up problem here and through Google but all these people seemed to still be able to get sound, whether through the front or rear jack and I get nothing but static. I've tried different speakers and headphones, they all do nothing but produce noise and static. I tried playing a music file for shits and giggles thinking maybe it's just producing the noise/static because nothing is playing, but no. Still the same thing.
If if matters any, I tried plugging something into the front jack while it was enabled and disabled and it produces the same noise/static as the rear, so I'm beginning to think maybe it's something faulty on the motherboard but I don't know.
I don't know if I should attempt to follow the instructions in the "Realtek HD Changing Jack output reassignments ( FIX )" post here (I've edited registry before but it took awhile) or was thinking maybe I should just get a sound card and plug it into the pci slot or maybe just run in circles and pretend that will fix it. lol.
