My first flat screen was a 50" Samsung DLP. Got it about 6 yrs ago and finally had to replace the bulb about 2 Months ago. It was gradually getting dimmer and now its looks great again. Samsung went to a LED light source on their newer DLP units but now they no longer offer DLP units. Bought a 40" LCD a couple years ago for the den. This was before LED ones came out. It has a great picture but puts out a lot of heat. I also have a 25" LED monitor for my PC. LED looks like the best system right now but things are always improving.

I have an old Toshiba CRT RPTV (51") that I picked up on Kijiji for $80.

The picture is really nice, full 1080i. The problem is that it no longer calibrates perfectly, so I can't use it with a HTPC as trying to read text gives me a headache.

I am looking at the new Mitsubishis though.

I have owned a 50" rear projection LCD (Sony Grand Wega III), a 50" Panasonic Plasma and a 32" Vizio LCD. Had problems with the Sony and replaced it with the Panasonic Plasma and absolutely, positively and without question love it. Black levels and Contrast ratios are most important to me and the Plasma excels there. I saw very little difference in my energy will switching between my old 32" Sony tube TV, my 50" RPTV, and my 50" plasma.

Many know I am a TV tech. I fix 8 or 9 TVs in the home every day. See a projection set very rarely these days. I'd say it's 75% to 80% LCD, an occasional Projection, and the rest Plasma. Plasma are harder to fix, so I like LCD for that reason I have a Sony SXRD that has as good a picture as any TV I have seen. Have to replace lamps and that is an added cost. A Guy

Still have LG 29" CRT version with perfect sound effect. The real problem is its weight is able to crush TV rack casters wheel when frequently moved from one room to another.
Stuck with 32 LCD Toshiba, gives me halo effect though it is only CCFL.

Flat screen innovation has been displayed for the longest time as I can remember. Before it was the fever for obtaining an Pioneer plasma. Sooner or later, plasma's came into full effect and Panasonic took the course.
LCD's were super efficient although they were lacking dynamic contrast ratio. At the moment, it has to be LED technology.
