Boot into BIOS setup now to see if the HD is detected at all.

If not about all you can do is reinstall it to see if it's making proper contact. If not then replace it and either run your Factory Recovery disks or Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 using the installer for your licensed version.

damaged?

Hi thanks for replying. How does the hard drive get damaged and is it possible.to fix.

A shock can damage the internal parts, or it might just cause it to shift enough that it isn't seated firmly to the contacts. So that's why I suggested reinstalling it. You can google for a video to reinstall your model PC's HD. But first check if its even detected.

bios

Not 100% sure what i am looking for in the bios screen. Would you know of any pictures showing me some help.

Once you get into the bios, you want to see if your hard drive is being detected.

Are you able to get into the bios ?

Once you`re in the bios.

Up at the top there are different options you can choose. One of them is named advanced, choose that and the screen should change, once it does, look on that screen to see if your hard drive is listed.

Example: ( If you had a 500 GB Western Digital hard drive, it would read something WD50012345. )

The list will look something like this.

IDE Master
IDE Slave
Sata 1
Sata 2
Sata 3
Sata 4 etc.

If it`s not there, that is the problem and why it won`t boot into windows.

Possibly.

Don`t see why just dropping it will have damaged it but....

Sorry but are you joking? Of course it will damage it.

You will need a new hard drive.

He need's a new hard drive before he can do anything.
