I have as ASUS P53E Notebook using W7 Ultimate.
Scenario is like this. Use it almost all the time with external power. Leave it on at night because autoscan for anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware and backup are accomplished at night. Once a week I teach a class that requires me to use the notebook, therefore it's on battery during the class.

When I put it back on external power and turn it on it take a long time or never to boot up. The timing is like this ON switch.......BIOS and then offer to go into Safe Mode......30 sec. full up Safe Mode with Network..... another 90 sec. That's where I am now. The last attempt to boot to the "last known" good operating system results in afer the Welcome Screen the monitor goes black with only the mouse showing. I waite for about 15 minutes and it never did display anything but the mouse cursor, which I could move.
Any ideas?

How long has it been doing this? If just recently, have you tried a System Restore?

It'sbeen doing this about three months. Did a Reimage Repair a couple of weeks ago.
After I did the first post in Safe Mode with Networking I did a restart and it had the black screen again with the mouse cursor.Went into the bedroom for a few minutes and when I came back the computer had finished rebooting. I'm going to reboot right now and tiome things

Disconnected power to force to batterty. Opened and closed a couple of programs and then shut the computer down using the start button.
Plugged power back in and pressed the ON/OFF button. The computer booted up to a ready mode (all iconsa on and ready to use) in 1 minute and 5 seconds. Not too shabby.
Although booting up nicely now I suispect that I will experience a slow boot in a few days. I'd like to get this fixed. Is there a log of the boot process that I can find what is taking so long?

Bigmick,
I did a Repair Install using ISO "x17-59463.iso" from site "Digital River". I selected and installed the iso with SP1 already a part of the operatng system. Installed all the way and unchecked the AUTO ACTIVATE. Finished. Finding a few small programs that were not operating correctly. Will correct them.
Now I'm getting the message that the software is illegal. Is that because the OS has not been activated yet?
Also there are 96 important update.s to install. I'm putting off installing them until I find out from you if I'm getting the illegal sofware msg because I have not activated yet. Don't want to install the updates twice.

Once you activate it, the illegal software should go away. When I activated my last time, I put the Product Key in and a prompt came up to call Microsoft. It is a robot on the phone and they ask a few questions and at the end they gave me a new key to input. After that it was fine. You may or may not have to call Microsoft.

Had on program that I hd to reinstall and another that the activation number was no longer there. I may find more but I/m pretty satisfied.
