ReBoot Time

I didn't check all the previous pages, this a good time? What's the average?

Also, when booting up it shows Disk information and brings up my 1TB SATA3 6Gb/s hard drive... why?? wastes like 4 seconds.

All depends on your system, hardware, programs, BIOS settings, you can compare to systems with similar hardware.

Some people tweak their system until they get really low scores, it's a good way to explore the settings.

Yours is good for your specs.

Mine, with almost no tweaking ;)

WaitToKill: Services and Apps

All long boot times have to do with unncessary services, apps and drivers running in the background that could be easily adjusted in services.msc and msconfig . Both can by typed into your start/search.

As for editing the Registry like we did in previous versions, you can see in my posted boot time that it is not necessary to make the old adjustments as shown below.

Decided to load things down a bit and see how well my old gen1 SSD (Ocz Apex 60) handled the the reboot.

Here's a screenshot taken 'before' and 'after' with loads of files/apps in the way.

3 yr old dell d620, 80GB HDD, 2GB RAM, with 3 versions of NFS installed. Has a designed for xp sticker on it, and is not supported by dell for windows 7. Previous owner was actually told by a Dell support tech that windows 7 wouldn't run on this computer, which is why I got it really cheap

Had this PC about 4 1/2 months. Was 55 sec when mostly virgin. Now after installing and tweaking:

Restart time of 54 seconds.

This includes a 6 second RAID setup screen on boot.
As well as I had to type in my 10 letter password at the login screen (Probably should have disabled this for the test).

No real registry tweaks, though I do have a few extra progs loading on startup.

57 seconds. The HP rig: I have 76 tasks running (including Firefox), two AV (Ad-Aware & AVG). Also the hard drive is only 5,400 RPM, it's a WD "Green" drive with AMD RAIDXpert. It has a RAID and config time of about 5-8 seconds after post.

I'm finding it is pretty easy to manipulate your startup time. Normally with all USB items connected (one hard drive and two printers) my startup time is around 50 seconds. Just by disconnecting the hard drive and the two printers my startup time declines to 34 seconds.:sarc:

Most of the really fast startup times posted here are probably done with a minimal set of peripheral hardware attached and most startup items disabled. I managed to get a 3 year old dell (2 GHz Core 2, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB velociraptor) to reboot 7 ultimate in 40 seconds or less consistently even though it's a much slower machine overall than any new computer available today. If you want to get a good accurate comparison between machines, disable everything in the startup tab of msconfig, clean all the temp files and defrag first

This is the current monster rig lol...Vertex 2 60GB

28 seconds in diagnostic start-up - 31 seconds in normal start-up

A small 32GB ssd used with HDDBoost gives 31 seconds...probably the best deal out there atm.
