Ok - So far this is what I have done:

Install OS with Sata configured to AHCI for ssd

Using on-chip graphics sliced a second off vs a video card

Fresh OS install with no video/sound drivers installed

msconfig - kill startup/services...no GUIboot

I am now at 78 seconds with Windows 7 SP 1, compared to 70 seconds without SP 1. This is with a very fast processor and a fast spinning drive.

Up 8 seconds, I assume for a good reason. Not sure what it is.

For some of you with long shutdown times you might want to look into turning off the option of wiping paging file upon shutdown.

After much trial & tribulation and no improvement in my reboot times (was taking at least 75-95 secs, I posted a few times in this thread) I decided to do a fresh "factory" re-install using the built in OEM recovery option. After de-CRAPifying, updating, & re-installing my personal stuff from various media, this also primed my computer for installing SP1 (which I did, took me only 1 hour) Long story made short here's my most recent reboot (55 secs, a DRASTIC improvement)

Appartently when I bought the laptop, I BORKED something in the setup and it was making me CRAZY that I could not figure what it was that was "broken".
