So I'm basically taking apart this Vista desktop and trying to replace parts inside of it. I'm horrible when it comes to hardware, so I will need your help. First off, I already have a problem. I need to replace the RAM. In the picture below is what I've removed from the desktop. How do I find out what kind of RAM I need? How can I find out how much the motherboard can withstand, or if I can upgrade to DDR3, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Post the motherboard manufacturer and motherboard manufacturer and we can comment and possibly help.

Looking at that memory suggests this is an "old" technology motherboard. It may not be able to use upgraded memory.

Not sure what else you want to upgrade but you may be limited on what you can do and be better off to put the $$ into a new motherboard and components.

Most of those questions can be answered by looking up the specifications of that exact motherboard. I can answer one for you right now....you CAN'T upgrade to DDR3. As old as this looks to be, if you are wanting any REAL improvements, you need to buy a new CPU/Motherboard/RAM.

What you have there is 2x1GB sticks of DDR2 667MHz and 2x512MB sticks of DDR2 533MHz for a total of 3GB. Since the RAM has to run at the same speed, the 1GB sticks are downclocked to 533MHz. So, effectively you have 3GB of DDR2 533MHz RAM.

I'm actually just thinking about upgrading the motherboard then... If I'm right, it's a mid tower. Could anybody help me on figuring out what could fit this tower for a good price? Thanks. :)

It's an ECS Micro ATX with an Nvidia chipset, probably an HP build. Socket AM2/AM2+ motherboard and an mATX is all that will fit in that case.

No one can give you a suggestion of what you need unless we know what it will be used for and what your budget is.

Never mind. After looking at everything it in, I'm just going to build from the ground up. Is there a place that I can sell computers? I have perfectly good Gateway Windows XP desktop that runs fine. Other than that, I have around 5 computers that just need a couple of replacements (Such as RAM is bad or something along the lines of that) that I just want to get rid of.

Ebay? If you set the right price it will sell. Need to specify all specs in description though.
