Looking to purchase a new video card, I will look to budget to $125.
I am running older system that I built recently installed Windows 7 on.
I have MSI socket A mobo with AGP slot for the card. ANY recomendations on a really good card for video viewing mainly since I am not really a gamer on the PC anymore since the purchase of my PS3 so all thoughts are welcome.

It pretty much won't matter what card you get as you'll probably have the same problem. Problem is not your current card but your motherboard and the lack of a proper (and depending on which chipset) working AGP driver. Without that it doesn't matter which card you use, as without the driver the OS won't know what to do with the AGP card or its driver.

kcrunchone a new card won't solve your problem, a new computer will. If there isn't a properly working AGP driver (the one that tells the OS what to do with an AGP card), it won't matter what card you use.

You would be better served to save what that card you linked to would cost,

Newegg.com - HIS H467Q1GHDAP Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

and adding another couple of hundred to it and getting a new computer. Another thing to remember is that if you do get that card, if/when you do get a new computer you won't be able to use the card in it.

thanks but right now a new machine is not really in the budget. I need to make this work for me in the mean time. Just trying to get at least a basic grip for my video support you know. To be honest I would love a new machine but reality BITES.....

Do yourself a favor and stay with XP until you get a new computer.

Don't think you are understanding what I was saying earlier about the AGP driver, and you are confusing it with the video card driver, they are not the same thing. The AGP (also know as GART) driver is a motherboard chipset driver, and without it an AGP video card will not work properly if at all, or i your case allow the video card driver to even install. You will have the exact same problem with that 4670 for the same reasons you are having problems with your 9500.

That is also why I said that a new video card won't make any difference.

P.S. As far as a driver for your video card goes there is not now and won't be a Windows 7 specific driver for it, but there is a Vista driver,

ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver

that works with the cards listed, of which your 9500 Pro is one of.

Edit: To further the point,

http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/41024-help-hd-4650-graphics-card.html

that card is almost the same as the 4670, and it won't work in Windows 7 either.

You said you budget is $125.00 - You could get a decent motherboard combo with ram and an onboard video processor that will outdo the AGP card any day. It's just a suggestion, but if you can't go for a new machine right now, that's probably your best bet. I do have an ASRock P4VM900-SATA2 Mainboard with an Intel 2.2 Processor + heatsink/fan and 256MB's RAM. It's all in the box and was going to list it on EBAY for $75

Find this kind of deal or let me know if you want it and I'll ship it out to you, or show you where it's listed on Ebay.

Wow, this reminds me of myself a couple years back! :) I had a copy of Xp that went nongenuine on me and I ended up installing Windows 7 RC on it.

From my experience with that, Xp certified cards SUCK with 7! I know, I sympathize. You say you're not really gaming on it...first thing I learned with that was to find your power supply wattage. Running a video card with more watts your system can provide just won't happen. I'm assuming yours is 250 watts, correct me if I'm wrong. Start out with that first.

But really, if you're willing to spend 125 dollars on a single AGP card that may be worth at least half your computer's value or more...I don't know, I'd consider a new system. I personally built my first system after my old one and spent 366 dollars in total minus a case. I'd bet that you might be able to build a 325 dollar system now with your current computer case. But that is all up to you.

It looks pretty.
I just bought an HIS AGP HD Radeon 4670 from newegg. It installed and ran just fine with Win 7 then, I installed SP1.

I have 3 machines all running Win 7 Home Premium x86. I installed SP1 on 2 from Windows Update with no problems, on the third machine however it scrambled my video drivers.

The problem machine is a Pentium 4 with an AGP video card. The Device Manager shows an ATI Radeon HD 4670 display adapter with a yellow flag and the message: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." All I get for drivers are the default VGA drivers. After Updating the driver software I get the following message:

"The best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date." ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series

It seems that the video card and drivers are present, but they cannot find each other.

Any thoughts?
