Hello, my friends.

I have seen that most of people around here have enough experience regarding Windows 7 so I was wondering what kind of software can you recommend for Laptop/PC maintenance.

As I have read until now I understood that CCleaner is preffered for cleaning files and registry.

Any recommendations regarding registry/partition defragmentation?

Thanks!

Windows 7 doesn't need registry defragers and cleaners. If you must use one then CCleaner is probably the safest. Make sure you back up first

I was talking about cleaning in general. Registry was just a part of it. ;)

CCleaner is a comprehensive cleaning solution for unneeded files.

Registry cleaning is NOT RECOMMENDED.... and if you do remove old or unused registry entries it will not aid in achieving better performance. That is just hype to get you to buy their products. Ccleaner is good in removing junk files and a Registry Defrag tool like My Defrag or Puran Defrag is also recommended. Windows has tools that perform these jobs, Windows Registry Defrag and Disk Cleaner. You can use them or us the ones mentioned. There really isn't much you can do but to "tweak your system" so that you can teach optimum performance.

Use this guide line to gain maximum Windows 7 performance.....

I really like this Secunia PSI (personal software inspector).

It scans the laptop, listing all the programs & lets you know when to update or fix them. I was told to use version #2. It leaves a green fan grid in the task bar, if all in good shape. Soon as a program needs to be addressed, it changes to a reddish hue. It can be set up to do these updates automatically, but I prefer the hands on approach.

In the past, I wasn't able to find a driver for update of a video card on this machine, as it has been upgraded from XP. This Secunia program led me in a direction to find one that would work. So far so good. I like the program, because it mimics Macs, in that they prompt when updates are needed.
