Recording shows, then burn to dvd or BD? Possible?

Hi all,
In the past I recorded football games (and some other items) so that I could watch them again later. Since VHS is dead, I would like to setup a media center PC to do the same thing. Some Qs:

I have a current PC with SSD for the OS and love it. Can you set up media center so that the OS is on a fast SSD and then store everything else on a HDD?

After doing some research, I came to the conclusion that I would need a cablecard to record what I want. Once recorded, is it possible to burn the show to a DVD or BD so that I could watch it somewhere else? Like in a regular BD player?

Yes, you can do that.
You would need to buy a device to plug the cable card into though.
You need a bd-r drive and an bluray authoring program to burn the bd-r to play on a bluray player.

Once I find the DVD/BD authoring, is there any issue with playing this in a standard DVD or BD player? Don't want to push the issue, but that's the whole point of this - to play these later in my gameroom etc.

Once you have a regular video file, you can burn it to DVD with DVD Flick. Best input format is .avi (.wmp does not work - no sound). The resulting DVD will play on any DVD player. I never tried Blue Ray though.

You know, if you wanted to, you could record, and store the files on your PC and then use a media player, like the WDTV Live to play from the PC storing the files to the TV hooked up to the WDTV Live.

this way you won't have to re-encode and compress just to burn to a DVD or BD-R for playback.

Unless you have some way to convert copy once or copy never TV content, you won't be able to play any of your recorded TV anywhere other than on the original computer. The only recorded TV you can play on other computers is copy freely content.
